  1. given the sequence An = An-1 +An-2 and two numbers in the sequence, along with their place in it; is it always possible to find any An? if so, what would be the method? for example, if you knew A15 = 1001 and A7 to be 31, could you solve for A16?
  2. here, and ready. it may take me a couple of days to post, my birthday is tomorrow, and my mother is going to Minnesota soon, so i have some personal stuff to take care of, but i should post within 3 days.
  3. i could probably use a mentor. i have a general gist how to play, but am still a little unclear. for example, to we kill a person based on majority vote or unanimous? if majority, what happens if there is a tie? and in this mafia there are only 5 good guys. so its gonna be pretty tough it seems to identify him before he eliminates them, unless when you get down to just one good guy, he can kill the bad guy himself.
  4. beat me to it, was about half way through solving this one.
  5. i'll sign up, i think i have a better idea of what i'm supposed to do now.
  6. here's what I've been thinking. using the good will hunting problem to classify groups of points. I'm not quite sure how yet, been thinking about it though.
  7. an interesting little problem I'm working on to bide some time.
  8. I look at our world and the troubles it has as well as the troubles it has over come. I am grateful for the things i have, a relatively free safe environment, clean water good food, plentiful entertainment. but i somehow can't help but feel a general sense of sadness. like too high a price was paid for it. and is being paid for it. I want to change, but I don't know how or even what to. i feel like i can barely answer some of the basic questions let alone the bigger ones. let me give you some small examples. are we better off as a species with technology or without it? yes we live longer on the whole, but community is the goal, not life, and i don't see much increase in the amount of personal interaction between human beings. we live in the big sprawling cities but we interact on the most part though our computers not in person. i feel mentally drained myself, from trying to grasp how human beings should behave. i find myself at least once a day contemplating suicide simply because i don't know what to do with myself. i feel like i missed out on the important lessons in life; love, happiness, curiosity, friendship and replaced it with work, money, and security. :-(
  9. i would submit an action but i'm not even sure what to do. like aren't we supposed to chat or something? do i just randomly accuse people of being a goodie/baddie and vote?
  10. okay, so you want to exclude any sequences which don't allow you to = 10 after standard operations are preformed. the only algorithm i know of that's guaranteed to work is to continually guess and check. until either a solution is found, or all possible operations have been tried.
  11. i have no clue what this question is even asking. how does the top part, r1, r2, r3, a1, a2, a3, relate to the bottom part, x <= y finite operations the allow y -x = 0.
  12. i like listening to a math teacher who argues that the real numbers are paradoxical. the problem with them, say a number like square root 2, is that they require an infinite amount of information to "store". we can never know exactly what the square root of two is, we can only have an aproximate answer based on formulas. consider the following irrational number. you take a list of intinite yes or no questions, and sort them alphabetically. then you express the answer to each question as a number in binary, containing a zero or no or one for yes. then you can answer an infinite number of questions just by knowing the position of the question in the sqeuence.
  13. this is basically the grandfather pardadox, done with money instead of grandfathers. you put money in a bank, withdraw it at a later date, go back in time give it to yourself, that puts the money in the bank. there are two possible explainations for whats really occuring. either you are on a time tangent where the does happen, but only once, or time travel is impossible.the time tangent one is the mos interesting.like in the show gargoyles the pheonix gate, when you open a time portal you create a reality where whatever you do is somethig that's supposed to happen. in this case what really happens is you only have 500 dollars, and your future self gives you the 500 from your own bank account.
  14. #2 would be the answer i was looking for, easy solve.
