  1. guess it depends how small but probably the first. would you rather have a large house but not much stuff or a lot of stuff but a small house?
  2. okay let's work through it slowly. let's say there are 1 blonde and 2 brunette. two guys see 1 blonde 1 brunette, and the other guy sees two brunette. and the other possibility is all 3 brunette for the guy seeing two brunette. if I’m the guy that sees two brunette, i can't know what’s behind me. nor do I see how the other two could. the only conclusion we can safely reach is that no one sees two blonde.
  3. i don't think so. we can't make his assumption that everyone thinks at the same speed. besides if i saw a blonde and brunette, how could i possibly say brunette? i have no idea who is behind me.
  4. i like this anwer the best though i was aiming for non zero answers.
  5. wow tough call. i'd kinda like to see the furute so id go with the second one. would you rather be the only smart person in the world of dumb people, or the only dumb person in a world of smart people.
  6. fairly straigth froward to do it in 4 if all numbers are same value hte question is can it be done in 3 with different numbers?
  7. whats the smallest number that can be expressed as the sum of 3 squares in 3 unique ways
  8. yes, i tihnk i ran my simulation wrong. trying to think of a way to fix it.
  9. gotta go with blue whale on that one. godzilla here i come! would you rather have a nose pick compulsion, or a constant ear ache?
  10. so the games are as follows. if the number of games played is evenly divisable by 3, pay 3, roll a dice and take money equal to roll. else pay 599 dollars, roll 100 dice and get money equal to roll. the other two games are the same, except for the slight differance of number of games being +1 evenly divisalbe by 3, and +2 evenly divisible by 3. this system meets the nessicary criteria. that is any single game or any two games picked are definately losing, since at least 1/3 games will be severely losing. but if you can play all 3 in any order. you can simply play the first game then second game then third game and back to first and have a winning strat.
  11. close but not quite. the true answer for N seems to be
  12. here's my challenge for you. accurately add 1/13 to 45/89 in decimal representation.
  13. well, not entirely sure i agree. for example, how would you denote 1/13? you need a consistent way of denoting any rational number, not just ones that repeat the last digit. personally, i like the bar method, where the repeated values have a bar over the top over the length of the repeating part. so _ 0.9 = 1 would be more accurate (although more cumbersome.)
  14. you can have duplicates. so everyone can be 1 for example.
  15. hmm. i don't see a solution myself either. with 2 people for example, you have 4 possible results A B 1 1 1 2 2 1 2 2 at best each person can eliminate half, leaving 1 result uncounted for.
  16. hmm. there's a mathematician on youtube, norm wildberger, whom i kinda like who would disagree. the problem being that we cant actually "know" infinity. try writing infinite 9's. you can't. so at best we can say 0.9999999 or wherever you care to stop approximately equals 1. to prove this point, accurately calculate pi +e +sqrt(2). if you're being honest, you would calculate it as pi + e +sqrt(2).
  17. in this game, each player will receive 3 adjacent words of a complete sentence, secretly. all posts made in this thread should be completely honest. any lying what so ever in this thread will result in your secret words being randomly distributed to other players. so for example you could make the following deal. "I'll pm the first person one of my words if they pm me one of theirs." now here's where it get's tricky. note that the statement itself lends to some open-ended results. for example, if two people pm a word to a player, he only has to respond the the first one he receives with one of the secret words. even for pm's you must be honest, however. so if you get two pm's from two people with one of their secret words, the second one you can honestly state that you've responded to the first person with your secret word, but thanks for the help. also note that the player did not necessarily put a time limit for when he would reveal the secret word. hypothetically he could wait over a month if he wants. please make sure you copy any pm's to me so i may review them for honesty. the game is over when one player posts the entire sentence containing all the secret words. sign ups moderator: phil1882 players: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.
