  1. cant make the connection between your first word and well. another?
  2. @ Wilson and hambone seems to have some inkling, what does it mean? "stoned to the gills"? "high as a kite"? cant come up with another reference. chess being planks of a bridge. guess that one works, too. havent come across that one is some time... Catch y'all later! more to the point at hand (running on empty re the idioms, had to mix it up). nice work. that gives answers for all with a few valid replacements for a couple I had. should we continue?
  3. ok maybe not... too funny! thanks for the chuckle Aside.Do we have this term in common UK/US? the answer is an idiom I believe common to both. I realized from the start that this puzzle might not be so universal internationally. Makes your answers all the more impressive. good one dD, right on the money.
  4. Yes hambone, got that one dead to rights. be back in twenty minutes...
  5. seems I've got myself in a pickle. nothing wrong with either of those DD. the second one will require a different answer than I originally had for 6. though. but now I have no doubt that there may be many. there still is another I think you may like using yet another form of "chess" EDIT: Great fun especially with this sudden flurry of activity. Have to run home. Will check back in twenty minutes.
  6. Hello hambone. hambone, where ya been? Welcome aboard (but in the case at hand, no board required). Not what I had in mind but could be an acceptalble substitute.
  7. Hey Wilson, more fine thoughts. Gonna stick to the original plan for now on these.

Have been studying and enjoying this one for some time. Always great to have new riddlers.
  9. Best-laid schemes o' mice an' men gang aft a-gley. But you do make it hard to say no. Extremely well thought out as always. Gonna say the interpretation of the "connector" words need be a little more direct. Not much mind you. And I think half of twelve is on the same track as mine.
  10. I feel your pain, no really... The use of "game" as translation of the "connecting" word was already used on the "other end" so no can do. Hey DN, never say never but in this case, lightning doesnt strike twice (see Wilson's below) Hey Wilson, so kind of you to say and thanks for having your share . Spot on for 13. I had different for 16 and 17 but yours fit the bill (your 17 was my 16). For 8, what are you like? Just kidding, that one fits too. Still off on 5. & 6. Cheers
  11. Sorry DD, no room at the inn. To stay within the theme/structure you would need another answer both before and after this one. Did a double take at first. Not within the theme/structure.
  12. Hey DN, you've got 11 and 14 close enough for government work and have pretty much nailed the breakdown, as well.
  13. yessiree bob. have a little extra in 6. that you'll need to keep (within the theme) for later. well, I stand corrected, kind of. Yours make perfect sense for 5 and 6 but you need to get three out of those two. But right on (for 18). a perfect match, but not my intended interpretation so contrary to the theme unless you can work out the other end.
  14. Thanks DD, my pleasure. Thank you for having at it. Please keep on keepin' on.

ljb must be referring to sectioning segment CD into fifths and the corresponding angles thru the centerpoint of the square not equalling 12o. I can prove that they're not so guess I wont be proving that they are (yelping with tail between legs back to Words). Sorry all.
  16. Close enough (no reason to split hairs). Think that one may be my farorite.
  17. sorry DD, those would be a horse of a different color
  18. Hey dD, got me spinning in different directions on this one
  19. right you are, fire away. you're on a roll.
