The day this was posted makes me REALLY want to say New Year's Eve fireworks or rockets, but I can't quite see how all the clues fit.

As a matter of fact, I decided to hold onto this riddle for a little bit and post it now because that was one of the first things I thought of on a re-read looking for alternate answers. The clues that make it seem to not quite fit are probably the ones I added to keep fireworks from being an answer.

Revealing a terrified host ("Host" is a tricky word here - it seems to imply many people.)

Not sparks or lightning, it leaves some clues unanswered as you've noted.
Neither snakes nor termites. Unless they create a blinding light and deafening blast because they are exploding snakes and termites.

If you have a termite problem you don't know about, they could definitely create a deafening blast as your foundation crumbles.

cameramen? paparrazzi and nature photographers fit most of the lines. the barricade could be the shutter and the jumping could be skydivers using the gopro cameras on their helmets

Not a shutterbug. I suppose that you could somehow force a cameraman into some sort of situation to fit any of those clues. But I feel the answer I have in mind would be more satisfying and give the reader a sense of why those particular clues were appropriate.
