No, that only applies if you see your cards, if you are blind to the cards then there is no difference. No one has 1 card less of a chance because there is no way to determine if each card dealt is in any way valuable. However, once you see your own hand then the odds change from a blind 1:5, to the odds of your hand v.s. all other possibilities v.s. the number of cards dealt. Basically, there are no odds when the cards are dealt. It's all luck at that point.

Well that's your answer. The reason the odds are better is because- ie, getting a pair, there are 312 ways to get it. With a royal flush there are only 4 ways to get it. This applies for each individual playing. The deal here is, the odds for one person obtaining any of those hands is: as you have already stated... These exact same odds apply to the guy next to him (the odds of getting any of those hands), and for the guy next to him and so on. Each guy has the same odds of picking and one of the various hands. So, because each one has the same odds of obtaining each hand, then their relevance to each other is nothing more than 1:1:1:1:1. The odds of holding the winning hand is 1in5. The same applies for hold-em, from the flop all the way down to the river card (so long as each player is blind). Though the odds change once someone can compare theirs to the community cards in the middle.
  3. Man, I thought i had it! Thank you though, I'll keep trying. If it helps anyone else, this is the translation I came up with... If you like us, it's because you are greedy Don't bother asking if we will cheat people You know we give and then we take it back

Yeah, definitely a good idea to leave out the spaces. I used to solve a similar kind of puzzle in a local news paper. It had the letters in a quote randomly replaced by other relative letters, and the spaces were given. The 2 digit combination and lack of spaces made it much more difficult. I'd like to try another one like this, except without a relative keyboard translation.
  7. Top center Top right Mid-Left Mid-Right Bottom Left Bottom Center (basically just leave a diagonal row empty)

Thank you very much. I was completely thrown by the £(pound) = #(pound) and I still don't get how "(quotes) = @(at) Do you have a different key board or something?
  9. Brandonb

I had no clue what the deal was with the 2nd sentence. Now I really get it. Thank you.

YES!!!! A have a smart man here ladies and gentlemen!!! (as if we didn't know that already, the guy comes up with, and solves, some of the best riddles on this board). But still, Vava La FAIRTAX! Too bad the remaining candidates have no idea what's going on. Just trying to understand how they don't get it, is in itself a Brain Teaser. BTW itachi, have you read the 2nd FairTax book yet? I bought it but I haven't read any of it.

So I'm assuming you know what your taxes are? Then can you please tell me how much total money you pay on income tax, gas tax, sales tax, and luxury tax, tobacco tax, city tax, state tax, car tax, home tax, land tax.... please, indulge me in what it is. Annually? Monthly? How about even daily? No? How about just your income tax alone off the top of your head? Daily? no? Monthly? no? Annually? maybe as of yesterday you know, but now that you've paid last year's, it's doubtful you know what it is now. get the point?
  12. But what about the children?

I like bacon's answer "think" better
  14. Brandonb

yes! Well done. The Famous income tax! Where no one usually knows the quantity that is being taken from them. All anyone knows is how much of their own money they get back. It's a load of... non-castrated male cow excrement. I'm surprised that there were so many fitting answers, I need to be more careful next time.
  15. Brandonb

Really... don't bother posting other riddles that "you've heard" without looking up key words to the riddle, in the search bar at the bottom of the forum. It's just gonna waste space.

Oh so close, just doesn't fit "it's doubtful you know what I am"
