Going with the computer idea, you are only left with the electricity/energy so how do you then deduce that it's our brain that controls us, if you've just proved/assumed that you can remove the brain from the process?

I've always been a fan of the Viking funeral. Put them on a raft, kick it out to sea and then fire flaming arrows at it. Never had any practice at it though <_<

  4. OK, it's gotta be 1 of 2 things: Edit: Given that:

    How about when they're alive?

I'm gonna take the next step in this discussion and eliminate some clutter, like our bodies. Let's assume that there is a system that could sustain our brains without any other part of the body attached or present. Now let's assume that this system could interpret our thoughts and display them visually on a monitor. Would we agree that we are still ourselves? If everything about our personality, knowledge, memories is retained then I would say we still exist in this form. Now the question is more simplified ...I think. Is it our brain that is thinking or is it the person that is making the brain do work? My theory, which of course cannot be proven, is that it is our energy, electricity, life, soul, whatever you want to call it, that controls the brain.
  7. Just testing to see if I'm on the right path here:
  8. Sure, keep in mind that it really more of a fun challenge than a logical one. Since this was such an oddball riddle, I didn't want people to think too long and hard about it
  9. OK then here I go. The theory of multiverses can be refuted by simply noting that in order to create any theory about multi-dimensional reality one must assume that parallel universes exist. This applies to String, M-Theory, Universe Bubbles and the 4 levels of the Multiverse Theory. Making this assumption is a huge leap in logic. It defies the much simpler reasoning that can be accomplished by just dealing with the one universe that we know exists. Furthermore, just to play devil's advocate and agree that parallel universes exist and are created every moment, then why should anyone reason that their futures will differ from the future of this current universe? Why would Hitler be alive? Why wouldn't the exact same set of effects take place given the exact same set of causes? I propose that if there were innumerable parallel universes then they would all be exactly the same and therefore useless in time travel because they should be advancing in terms of time identically with the universe from which they spawned. Now, to continue making different points the Bubble Theory is interesting because it suggests the creation of universes from the quantum stuff of a parent universe. On a very small scale there are energy fluctuations. These fluctuations may create tiny bubbles and wormholes. If the energy fluctuation is not very large, a tiny bubble universe may form, experience some expansion like an inflating balloon, and then contract and disappear from existence. However, if the energy fluctuation is greater than a particular critical value, a tiny bubble universe forms from the parent universe, experiences long-term expansion, and allows matter and large-scale galactic structures to form. Now, we would stil have to make a huge assumption and say that the energy difference will effect time and/or physics. For now, I'm going to stick with a one universe ideology. In this universe we cannot travel back in time. We can travel forward in a sense as harvey45 pointed out (also works with long-term frozen hibernation). I believe, for now, that the multiverse and other theories assume too much and then theorize based off of those unproven assumptions.
  10. The one unquestionable fact happened suddenly because something desired to act intelligently. He...(It)...fainted, despairing. "Why in the bathroom did an umbrella startle me?" Naturally, there must have been somebody hiding behind my toilet. That explains more; odors discombobulated my heat-sink, and freak-dancing showed just what the Martians sprinkled all over the seat. Embarking on an idealistic adventure was advantageous to disenfranchised citizens lavishing praise from inebriated folks. Australian counterparts were alarmed at the vibrant chinchilla
  11. Well, here's the answer. I admit that I made this one with more fun than logic in mind. This one was really tough, but I was hoping for the off chance that someone's mind worked as strangely as mine does.
  12. He would have most likely exaggerated his accomplishments in his memoirs, but his enemies would obviously disagree and say the opposite about anything he did, deflating his accomplishments. So they both tell of his accomplishments, just with completely different motives and embellishing on both their parts: one positive and one negative.
  13. Well, this is obviously not the answer I suppose, but in a race it is not possible for some to be in 3rd place the whole time because of the staggered starting positions. Everyone starts in a different lane and then they all mesh after a few seconds and all stay on the inside lane, unless passing. So if the guy in 3rd starts at the innermost lane and Billy is on the second lane, then everyone passes Billy and takes their spots and Billy was never in front of the guy in 3rd.
  14. Every member of a relay team is on the same place. Also, the riddle is for the 400m dash not the 400m relay.
  15. Unless I'm missing something aren't there infinite answers?
  16. The mythical sirens: Check this out. They sing, you hear the song, are compelled to sail to their island and then they... make sweet love to you... no wait, they kill you.
  17. Argon is used as a fill gas in incandescent lighting, because argon will not react with the filament of light bulbs even at high temperatures. It is also used as an inert gas shield in many forms of welding. One definition of buffer is any device, material, or apparatus used as a shield, cushion, or bumper, esp. on machinery.
