0 plasmid
either a vulture......or an archaeologist.........???? The first would be a superset containing buzzards, the second might come long after the scene described but I don't think would fit as the "I" in the riddle. a fight gone bad......???? You could in an abstract sense say that it's describing such a scene, but this is describing something more specific and you're supposed to figure out what "I" am. an avalanche A few things stand out that wouldn't work so well with that guess, like all but bone being consumed. UAV/drone aircraft? A good answer, but there's something that fits better with the first five lines. High Court Judge? Interesting take. The last stanza would be a bit odd, though. bow hunter? (who field dresses his kill?) Would fit with all but the ninth line: circling high my wings are spread

0 Guest
by it not being a buzzard, were you trying to rule out all birds? I can think of a few other birds that could fit, that are different from a buzzard in a few ways...like, hawks/eagles and most owls? The United States Of America? Far above the plains I perch To gaze upon the land---thought either the US flags, or spy satellites Motionless I ever search 'til roused I stay my hand---going more off the satellites idea in that when they see something not right they act upon it Eyes alight at scent of death And slumber's at an end------maybe like the start of WWII, when Japan awoke the sleeping giant-(the USA) Bloody prey draw final breath Against you I'll contend------prey being the soon-to-be dead enemy that the US will contend Circling high my wings are spread---again maybe the satellites, or the bombers/jet fighters As I strike forth at thee Shrieks cry out and conjure dread So all will surely flee-----I'm sure the might of the US coming to a specific country causes a great deal of fear for civilian and soldier alike, causing them to flee Nobly fought but awful turn----most don't last long battling the US And all but bone's consumed----perhaps the death caused by widespread destruction Scavengers make their return In hopes that more's exhumed----maybe scavengers here would be people searching and hoping for people still alive, or to recover the dead for their families how about a volcano? maybe it's a Banshee or Death himself? sorry for the multiple geusses all at once...I'm not as active as I used to be, so I thought I'd throw out a few ideas that came to mind when I read it....again another excellent riddle

Question
plasmid
Far above the plains I perch
To gaze upon the land
Motionless I ever search
'til roused I stay my hand
Eyes alight at scent of death
And slumber's at an end
Bloody prey draw final breath
Against you I'll contend
Circling high my wings are spread
As I strike forth at thee
Shrieks cry out and conjure dread
So all will surely flee
Nobly fought but awful turn
And all but bone's consumed
Scavengers make their return
In hopes that more's exhumed
Apologies in advance that I won't be able to log in very often to check on answers
