OK, I've got one, with 7 letters

I feel like Gollum, thinking "What has it got in its pocketses?" Some or all of these answers appear to answer the question. So now what?

WilsonsMum, so which list is correct, the 3-o elephant or the 4-o elephant?

Inzuri et al, Here's an update to the excel spreadsheet that automatically computes these tables. This new version correctly ignores case, so that "a" matches "A". Sorry to interrupt...

OOops, sorry! this new version does all compares in lower case, so the case of hidden word and of query words doesn't matter. And you're most welcome!
  8. Thank you very much! I was not going to get there, I can see...

I get glassy-eyed counting matches, too. I've made this Excel spreadsheet that does it automatically. Perhaps you'd like it...It has macros, so if Windows or Excel acts like a mother hen, warning you that there are MACROS(!), just calm them and say "accept" or "ok" or whatever appeases their concerns. If you don't, it won't work. Have fun,
  10. I feel like someone who entered a conversation late...I don't know the goal or the rules. I see word answers with some letters, butnot all letters, capitalized, converted to numbers, and given as The Answer. What is the rule describing which letters are permitted to be omitted (ie. kept in lower case)?

The way I play the game is to issue queries. Each query gives me some information. Especially once I know a letter (such as I) is a zero, I know that letter isn't contributing to the total. Why would I willing include letters known to be zeroes? To make it easier to construct a word with letters I'm interested in.
  12. Each word began with one letter and contained the letter 13 away in the alphabet (A-N, B-O, etc.). Beautifully enough, this relationship is reciprocal, as the N word contains an A (also 13 letters away). What an ingenious and beautiful relationship! Thanks, Bonanova! Inzuri and CaptainEd both conform to the pattern (not quite the same as "are comfortable with")
  13. Ah! That explains the "daquiri". I am even more impressed than before--you were doing these all from your head, not from some Scrabble dictionary! Your head at 3 AM is a lot more powerful than mine at any time...

edit: but I missed a case. I'm with Bonanova now...
