If the Ground floor is numbered 0 (European tradition), I agree with Boiling Oil. I haven't worked it out if Ground = 1 (American tradition).

Strictly speaking, in the frame of reference of the blue circle itself, it goes nowhere, the green circle and the rest of the entire universe performs two complete revolutions around it.

Actually, the-genius, I disagree. If the statement of the problem had said that a unicycle was ridden by a rider (with enough gravity in the green circle to attract the unicycle), then it would make sense that the wheel made one revolution in the frame of reference of the unicycle. However, without that very special frame of reference, we have no reason to believe that the blue coin has any other "up" than the one we viewers all share. In that frame of reference, as we have seen, the "top" of the blue circle comes up to face "up" twice in its travel. As you point out, the unicycle rider does not see the additional rotation because he/she is undergoing it.
  4. OK, Furikan, I'm convinced--you really can determine theta given a and s. Cool! And thence, you've derived the rest. Neat! Thank you.
  5. Apparently Furikan did some additional work beyond what was shown in the site he alludes to--I didn't instantly see a relationship between the arclength and the chord, so I didn't see how he would know the presumed radius of the circle. But since I didn't do the work and he did, I can believe it. Nice counterintuitive puzzle, Dr. Templeton!
  6. Aha! this puzzle has been zapped by Voltage!
  7. I like SHAVING but I don't like CREAM I like...but I don't like SHAVING...CREAM MARBLES...HAIL BEER...STOUT CIRCLES...ROUNDS SERVING...WAITING TOPICS...THREADS CONFLICT...DISAPPOINTMENT COPPER...BAUXITE POOLS...SAUNAs BUTTER...GOATS
  8. I'm indifferent to the letter "A" For example, I like MARBLES but I don't like HAIL I like...but I don't like MARBLES...HAIL BEER...STOUT CIRCLES...ROUNDS SERVING...WAITING TOPICS...THREADS CONFLICT...DISAPPOINTMENT COPPER...BAUXITE POOLS...SAUNAs BUTTER...GOATS
  9. Yes, I like BEER, but I don't like STOUT I like...but I don't like BEER...STOUT CIRCLES...ROUNDS SERVING...WAITING TOPICS...THREADS CONFLICT...DISAPPOINTMENT COPPER...BAUXITE POOLS...SAUNAs BUTTER...GOATS

Of course, you could try it with two coins...
  11. On "New Puzzles", the-genius has a geometry puzzle that reminded me that: I like CIRCLES but I don't like ROUNDS So: I like...but I don't like CIRCLES...ROUNDS SERVING...WAITING TOPICS...THREADS CONFLICT...DISAPPOINTMENT COPPER...BAUXITE POOLS...SAUNAs BUTTER...GOATS
  12. Hmm, rush hour is over...here's another clue: I like SERVING but I don't like WAITING. I like...but I don't like SERVING...WAITING TOPICS...THREADS CONFLICT...DISAPPOINTMENT COPPER...BAUXITE POOLS...SAUNAs BUTTER...GOATS
  13. Cool, thanks! By the way, I like TOPICS but I don't like THREADS And, folks, the last rule guess was wrong, so the running situation is: I like...but I don't like TOPICS...THREADS CONFLICT...DISAPPOINTMENT COPPER...BAUXITE POOLS...SAUNAs BUTTER...GOATS
  14. When I look at the Masterwords, I see a few dozen "topics", each appearing to be a separate game. Is that what you mean by using the "same thread"?
  15. No, peace_out, "double letters" is not the rule for liking, or their lack the rule for disliking. I like CONFLICT but I don't like DISAPPOINTMENT I like...but I don't like COPPER...BAUXITE POOLS...SAUNAs BUTTER...GOATS
  16. Star_Tiger, I certainly don't wish to duplicate work. Does your comment mean that this is an inappropriate topic?
  17. I like COPPER but I don't like BAUXITE I like...but I don't like COPPER...BAUXITE POOLS...SAUNAs BUTTER...GOATS
  18. I like POOLS, but I don't like SAUNAS I like...but I don't like POOLS...SAUNAs BUTTER...GOATS
  19. (I've tried "search" and I've looked over the various forums, and I can't find examples of this. I'm sorry if I've duplicated a post.) I like BUTTER but I don't like GOATS ----------------------------- For people who haven't played this game, here's how it works in general: First, the OP makes a statement of the form "I like xxxx but I don't like yyyy". Then, players ask questions. You can ask, "Do you like zzz?" --the OP will answer "Yes, I like zzz" or "No, I don't like zzz" --if the OP wants to show off his/her erudition and/or quick thinking, he/she will answer as much as possible with something like "Yes, I like zzz, but I don't like www" or "No, I don't like zzz, but I DO like www" If a player wants to show off how well they understand the OP's rule, their query might take the form, "I bet you like qqq" or "I bet you don't like qqq" The OP will answer as before. If a player wants to guess THE RULE, he/she should put it in a spoiler. If it's wrong, the OP will expose the guess, along with a counterexample. If it's right, the OP will congratulate the player, and announce that the rule is now known. (Might leave the game in play, I suppose. How do you folks do this in MasterWord? I see that in Masterword, the OP's responses contain all past queries and answers. That seems very humane. That should probably be done here, too.

Pickett made some things match. As much as I hate to give an impressionistic answer with explaining all the words in the clue:
  21. CaptainEd

violating one rule, here's my answer:
  22. Oops, sorry Pickett. You did nail #4 way up front! The OneWhoDoesNotExist has explained it well. OK Folks, the Captain's Shack is now closed for breakfast, will reopen later. For recap, the answers and explanations are:
