Question

Could be the perfect storm

But no, not either or.

And for not telling the truth

I've plead the fifth before.

'Cause in your local armory

You might swap me in kind,

For this life line's no aid;

Is another way to find.

A forceful piece that's constant

Carved a slice of special cake.

Put it all together and

Some sense of this you'll make.

uncertain was okay?

Am so sorry chicory, had mistakenly thought all your answers above were about the first line. Your response concerning line two is relevent; just needs some more play. This line is even more like the *quickies* of before. The rest of your guesses are not on track. But these should become much easier after you get the first two words and make the connection. Then you may have some ideas of the others and be able to work backwards.

is the fifth one
short?

I did it again. Dont know what's with me and misunderstanding which line you are referring to. Assumed this time you were referring to *the fifth* in the clue for the second word.

As for:

short epigram? or is there such a thing as gram (graham) cake?

Easter Isle lies short epigram

Am obviously having trouble keeping up. Most simply, each two lines will translate into one word except the last pair of lines which tell you to find the connection between the five words.

have established lies/lie/lying for *not the truth* but needs further manipulation as directed by the rest of the wording in this pair.

lies, short, epigram are not on track.

another possibility
maybe Salvation Army?

Trade in Kind: Salvation - saving, rescue, redemption, pardon

Very logical but not going where I'm coming from...I would suggest concentrating on the second pair of lines. You, like chicory, already have the *root* word and just need to make a connection and follow the directions in the rest of those two lines.

[spoiler='A forceful piece that's constant

Carved a slice of special cake.']could also refer to pi (pie) if you think of pie as a special cake, which i'm not sure i would. Still, they slice similarly and they are both circles. Pi is constant. Forceful? Important, anyway. yeah, forceful.
