Question

no offense to anyone :)

A Poem written by an African Shakespeare :P

Dear white fella

Couple of things you should know...

When I was born, I was black

When I grew up, I was black

When I go in sun, I am black

When I am cold, I am black

When I am scared, I am black

When I am sick, I am black

And when I die, I am still black.

You white fella,

When you are born, you are pink

When you grow up, you are white

When you go in sun, you are red

When you are cold, you are blue

When you are scared, you are yellow

When you are sick, you are green

And when you die, you are grey.

And you have the damn nerve to call me coloured??:lol:

I am from Philadelphia (I am white) but the term 'colored' is considered very insulting and degrading. On the other hand, the largest organization for supporting racial equality (nearly all black or as they prefer to be called here where I live, African Americans) is the NAACP. This is the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. I guess the money and name recognition is enough to prevent them from changing the name to a less vulgar term. Frankly, for most people in the U.S., the term 'colored' is outdated by several generations and those that still use it (generally older folks) do not mean for it to be negative but rather just a discriptive term.

I hope I'm not offending anyone with these comments.

What is it with people and being offended? You should just laugh, forget it and go on with your life ;)

And great poem

come on...Not everyone is the same... of course the poem is meant to be fun but some might get offended.. It doesn't hurt if we say that we meant no offense :)

 nice1!

Where i'm from we have 4 main racial groups. Black, White, Indian(thats me) and Coloured.

Is the term coloured derogatory in some places?

Are you from South Africa? I went there several years ago (7 years...OMG...I'm getting so old...lol). It was strange to have some of what I normally consider "black" people to be referred to as "coloured." It was especially strange to hear what I would consider a black person (but who would be considered colored there) to make fun of someone else for being black (all in good fun...they were teasing each other). I was also considered colored, even though I'm Asianish.

I've never heard the term "colored" as an offense term, but of course anyone can say a word with animosity.

Howzit?

Yeah I am proudly South African. :D The first coloureds were the children of white and black couples. I think this is the reason that most coloureds are able to speak English as well as zulu or Afrikaans(mix of Dutch and English). They’re fun pretty fun to have around. It’s quite a nice combination so you should take it as a compliment that ppl here considered you coloured :)

Most of the time it’s us Indians that ppl joke about. Its kewl though most people don’t take any offense.

Cheers,

i think everyones too politically correct, both those joke poem list things are hilarious

o and as a great comedian once said

how many "african americans" living in the us are actually from africa? how many do you think have even been to africa?

theres many places you can come from and still be black,

and so i dont seem like a hypocrit i dont get offended at jokes made about me or my race( correct wording?)

whats unacceptable are statetments made which are purposely insults, the you have a right to be offended, but as i said, great jokes

Are you FROM India?

if not, then how are you considered Indian?

Even in the US now, the correct term is Native Americans, although most people still say Indian.

The only reason Columbus et al called them Indians was because he THOUGHT he had landed in India at first (not the new world).

I'm just curious about other cultures

South Africa has a large population of Indians...from India.
