0 plasmid
EDM's quite warm. Just need to figure out what I'm getting at with the different numbers of holes that are seen at those particular times.

0 plasmid
This might be revealing a bit too much, but in case you're stuck while I am sticking to my general principle of riddling about something tangible (or rarely about an event, which this isn't), it's not a single tangible object

0 MissKitten
Buttonholes? Like, at this time you have this many holes opened/closed, and it changes as the day goes on?
0 plasmid
Buttonholes? Like, at this time you have this many holes opened/closed, and it changes as the day goes on? Most definitely on the right track. There was a reason why I chose those particular times of the day though, as well as the way the second stanza was put together. 0 plasmid
See, I was thinking of a Pee Coat...but I'm missing something... ROFL, I sure hope you meant to say Pea Coat! Otherwise... well I'm not even going to go there. But that still wouldn't fit all the clues, or the hint in post #30.
0 MissKitten
This is probably getting really cold, but Telescope lenses? Or maybe binoculars or something? Like the focus? Or the diaphragm in a microscope?
0 plasmid
Ooh, I really like the way microscope could work as another way of interpreting the second stanza, it would fit perfectly. The only problem is with the other stanzas, you're right in that it wasn't the direction I was heading with this riddle.

0 Molly Mae
A ski mask?
0 plasmid
A ski mask? That particular piece of headgear would actually defy the specified number of holes seen in relation to time of observation described in the second and third stanzas... Edit: And if it's any help, I had originally written the last stanza to be along the lines of the riddle from the Hobbit "No-legs lay on one-leg, two legs sat near on three legs, four legs got some." Fish on a one-legged table, man eating on a three-legged stool, his cat gets the bones
0 Shakeepuddn
But I suspect you are in the refrigerator, being eaten at different hours. Cake perhaps? Icecream scoops?s
0 plasmid
Lol, I don't let that kind of stuff just sit around in my icebox, I eat it all instantly as soon as I get my paws on it. it's making the point that the gaze is coming from the sun towards the man at various times of day
0 Guest
ahahaha shakeepuddn i liked your guess:D ... annn i was hoping for a diff hint plasmid:(... already got that part..:S i'm going maaadd trying to think of things that fit all the stanzas! ummm shot in the dark but is part of the answera window or something close? 0 DudleyDude
Hi everyone. The 'holes' could be referring to the number of holes in different clothing. From top to bottom, A hat has one hole A regular t-shirt has 4 holes (one for head, two for arms and one at the bottom) A pair of pants has 3 holes (waist and 2x legs) A pair of shoes (or socks) have 2 holes As far as the timing goes, one hole at noon (head) and 2 holes at midnight (socks/shoes) makes sense. But I'm not entirely sure how to justify pants being the break of day with the shirt being the afternoon. But other than that, I think it fits well enough especially considering the additional clues Plasmid has dropped so far.

Whatever you've been up to in the meantime, it hasn't dulled your riddle solving skills; your first guess was a hole in one. thinking behind shirt being seen in the afternoon is that it would best be seen looking from an angle from above, and pants would best be seen at dawn from an angle just a tad beneath the horizon. 0 Guest
Is it intentional that the number of... 'holes' is the same number of syllables in the time of day???

Question
plasmid
We crew aboard the ship
Just man when not at sea
Against the wind and cold equip
And keep civility
The lookout perched atop
The sarge' at arms austere
The gofor, hope he doesn't drop
Below, the engineers
-----------------------------------------
A man sees sun so hot
The gaze returned will miss
Ignoring man it sees him not
Instead it's seeing this
One hole seen at noon
Two holes seen at midnight
Three holes seen at break of dawn
Four holes seen in afternoon
