Question

We crew aboard the ship

Just man when not at sea

Against the wind and cold equip

And keep civility

The lookout perched atop

The sarge' at arms austere

The gofor, hope he doesn't drop

Below, the engineers

-----------------------------------------

A man sees sun so hot

The gaze returned will miss

Ignoring man it sees him not

Instead it's seeing this

One hole seen at noon

Two holes seen at midnight

Three holes seen at break of dawn

Four holes seen in afternoon

A ski mask?

That particular piece of headgear would actually defy the specified number of holes seen in relation to time of observation described in the second and third stanzas...

Edit: And if it's any help, I had originally written the last stanza to be along the lines of the riddle from the Hobbit

"No-legs lay on one-leg, two legs sat near on three legs, four legs got some."

Fish on a one-legged table, man eating on a three-legged stool, his cat gets the bones

Hi everyone.

The 'holes' could be referring to the number of holes in different clothing. From top to bottom,

A hat has one hole

A regular t-shirt has 4 holes (one for head, two for arms and one at the bottom)

A pair of pants has 3 holes (waist and 2x legs)

A pair of shoes (or socks) have 2 holes

As far as the timing goes, one hole at noon (head) and 2 holes at midnight (socks/shoes) makes sense. But I'm not entirely sure how to justify pants being the break of day with the shirt being the afternoon. But other than that, I think it fits well enough especially considering the additional clues Plasmid has dropped so far.

Hi DD, long time no hear. Whatever you've been up to in the meantime, it hasn't dulled your riddle solving skills; your first guess was a hole in one.

thinking behind shirt being seen in the afternoon is that it would best be seen looking from an angle from above, and pants would best be seen at dawn from an angle just a tad beneath the horizon.
