plainglazed
Once but for a time, long gone by This name I care not to recall A fearless battle of giants fought With chivalry lost in the fall If then but a romantic conquest for one Today the future in the balance may tilt For now is poised a mightier sword A powerful answer to this dilemma we've built While rancorous dispute's not soon overcome And circular logic just fuels the debate Its current success still's abundantly clear With just this one simple, twist of fate. Crusades Civil War (racism) Lincoln assassination Nuclear Detente Shakee, none of those and your point regarding which line seeks the answer is surely justified - the last line - but think I was hasty to post this one and need to work on a little rewrite. 0 Shakeepuddn
I generally abstain from seeking answers to be narrowed down but your previous comments about yours always being concrete objects don't seem to gel with this one, and the last line suggests an event? 0 plainglazed
no problema - that last line as written does suggest an event but that's misdirection (working on that line now).

0 Shakeepuddn
should I assume the solution directly addresses the last two lines of second stanza? Is the answer the "mightier blade?" Or do you seek the two giants? Edited December 15, 2009 by Shakeepuddn

Started with ford just having fun, but eventually led to the crisis we are currently facing. There are a lot of debates about where we should go from here. Anything along these lines? 0 plainglazed
Arthur's Round Table? Sp - not it PS - good guess an electric car or some sort of new type of fuel/energy. The giants are the automobile industry. Started with ford just having fun, but eventually led to the crisis we are currently facing. There are a lot of debates about where we should go from here. Anything along these lines? hello mevuc - welcome to the Den. a very good guess as you've correctly interpreted a lot of my intended meaning and jist. different giant tho. thanks for the response. 0 plainglazed
Windmills ? (Thinking Don Quixote) Yes Wilson, foiled again, well done. You seem to have my number of late. The first five lines (and the last word of the sixth as in the phrase "tilt(ing) at windmills") were literary references to Don Quixote as you have mentioned. Admittedly the description was not easily substantiated directly but hoped the second line might be recognized as part of the first line of the story (guess it's no "call me Ishmeal"). Keywords in the remainder of the riddle as well as their "story" were meant to conjure windmills of today (blade, powerful, circular, fuels, current, abunduntly and clear, twist, generate).
