I hope you realize you sound like a completely insane person. Reread the above sentence from the basis of someone who has never heard of christianity yet; it sounds completely wackoo doesn't it? There's a simple reason for that - it is. we're different because we have different genetics and develop according to those and our environment, all of which are different. The universe is a system which needs no self-sacrificing son-sheep sky-man to rule it; it's much more interesting than that

weird. We're using different dictionaries cause I've got 427 remaining words. Yours has more words Mind PMing me where you found it?

agreed. Btw I confess I cheated, using a program I wrote

  6. is this the first time since the beginnings that no mafia has been running on brainden?

nevertheless I'd recommend starting with a _very_ simple language of your own invention (very very very simple) and then once you get that working, extrapolate to more complex linguistic rules/patterns

The reality is that we cannot predict either. We have absolutely no way of predicting earthquakes in advance. And as far as war goes, who knows. That kind of thing could break out anytime and among the sheer number of people predicting all kinds of things, someone will step forward and say they predicted it (one example is economics... you have a million economists writing books about what the market will do next year and there's only so many things it can do so someone's probably right and then they can act like a future-telling god and make a bunch of phoney TV money). Aaanyway though, I think the most important problem humanity faces is the discovery & contact with extra-terrestrial life.

I think he means a very simple/logical language of the programmer's own invention... that would definitely be a good starting point

But if you see what saya is saying, the idea is that these things like emotions, abstract thoughts, etc, are all complexities (based on the fundamental phenomenon of the mind) that arises from when such a system as complex/deep as the physical universe is left alone long enough. It's a hypercomplex computer on a quantum scale that we haven't even come close to approaching with our own computers yet... hence why our computers seem like they are constricted too much by "logic" and "emotionlessness" when we don't realize that we ourselves are as well... but it's more like, our particles are, not necessarily the abstract constructs they create. So in theory, we could be part of a computer program just like these words we type are, unaware of the bigger picture.

Why are you so afraid to accept the truth that humans (Homo sapiens) ARE animals? We are a species of the kingdom Animalia. We're animals. We're biological lifeforms that live, eat and die on Earth. Get over it. It's not that big of a deal. Are you so afraid of death/anonymity that you don't want to accept humanity's insignificance in the grander scheme of things?

So let me get this straight. Person A is using his web browser to be malicious against Person B (your friend). Person B has asked you to break into Person A's computer and stop Person A from being able to access the web? Maybe you should confront Person A directly instead of a (possibly illegal) clandestine operation?

So much talk of war, for such a peaceful religion Mwahaahahaha my evil plan is at least revealed Good for you! I know that ignorance is bliss and maybe you take a blind leap of faith and feel reassured by it. You are putting your faith in something that likely doesn't exist but luckily for you, you won't find out that you are wrong until you are dead and then it's too late because you'll have lost the chance to truly appreciate your life and what you have. But nevertheless I won't even attempt to burst your bubble... I hope that whatever worldview you choose to believe in gives you peace However, don't go trying to push your hallucinations on us. You have to accept that your experiences/senses are all subjective. Someone else on the other side of the world has had a revelation equal in magnitude (or greater) than yours that the Hindu god Krishnu is the all mighty. edit: if any of the above sounded harsh, I'm sorry & I really didn't mean it that way. I accept my inability, with my miniscule human brain, to comprehend the true depth and breadth of the Universe. I simply cannot know the full truth. It seems however that you are not so humble in your gnosticism

I'm sure it's fine if you get the permission of those whose computer(s) you're working on

If you discovered that God didn't exist and realized this, would you commit suicide? No. I believe in no such deities but I'm not suicidal. Tell your theory to the 15% of the world who are nonreligious and (most of them) happy. I'd wager probably happier (on a deeper level) than those who still cling to falsehoods and fairy tales (not to belittle whatever religion you adhere to ) Is it not possible that such stories were written because of the devastation and historical significance caused by floods in general? There didn't have to be a worldwide flood for a large-scale flood to sink a large region and cause a catastrophe for those tribes that lived in that region (for them, that region WAS the whole world). It's not likely that there was a global flood, it's just not really feasible. But let's have the benefit of the doubt and say a global flood is indeed possible, and happened. Then of course people would write about it happening. I still don't see how it proves or disproves or has much connection at all to a god? That we do. Electrochemistry. The brain is an amazing amazing thing I've been struggling to understand it for years. It's not easy and you can't just sum it up with some easy answers and a swipe of the hand, passing off anything mysterious as divine/godly, thereby removing the true mystery... and thus the drive for more knowledge and discovery about our universe. Sometimes you have to accept what we know, what we don't know, and what is more in the realm of theoretical/philosophy of the mind. I could talk for a long time about feelings, the brain's neurochemistry, the arisal of consciousness from the material brain. There are a lot of people smarter than me on Brainden and they can talk about it too. The brain is crazy awesome... free will (the illusion of?), whether consciousness is the product or passive byproduct, etc... there are a lot of interesting things to talk about. But as far as the survival thing goes, we are what we are biologically because of the evolutionary process. Our emotions are based in reality, mating, surviving...

  17. woon, the problem with that is it reduces player's options. If there's a leader though there's still the full realm of choice (without restriction) and still will solve the chaos problem

That's kind of the opposite of what the word "elegant" implies to me... elegant implies something more abstract and 'pure' rather than applied / simulating the real world as OOP is. Lisp is elegant IMO because of the way it's based on the lambda calculus and it's logically completely abstract. It's written in its own code I agree that C++ is probably the most general/fastest/applicable language... but not elegant unless your definition of elegant is "utilitarian" which is fine. Have you done anything in Perl? that's the most utilitarian thing I've come across. It tries to accomodate practically anything haha. Which is both its strength and probably its downfall for being so "loose"
  19. good point. Maybe that should be a conscious effort among the players next time, or if you think that kind of self-organization just isn't feasible, I could implement a system, like where you elect a "Leader" that makes executive decisions. But you would be able to impeach/change the Leader of course. That would solve the disorganization problem probably/hopefully

simple syntax: Lisp check, Whitespace check high-level: Lisp check, Whitespace not-so-check few built-ins: Lisp has corrupted itself over the years, but Whitespace check object-oriented [i disagree with this category] looks good: check, check you can think in it: Can you think in any programming language? I think this is mostly a matter of experience, independent of the language. True for not just programming languages but linguistic languages too probably
  21. unreality

I agree with Lisp. Either that or Whitespace
  22. Join some kind of club, group, team, organization, etc... just 1 or 2, you don't need to scour the earth for people. Just join a few things at first, try to meet people. I've never had to move mid-childhood but it sounds very hard especially for a kid at a certain crucial range of ages
  23. duly noted! And you're welcome of course - thanks for playing!
