* Mercenary - the Mercenary has been hired to take out a specific person with a lynching. The person is random from the list of all other roles except Alpha Werewolf, the Don and the Cypher. If the Mercenary's target is killed by the Mafia, the Mercenary joins the Townsfolk, and if the Mercenary's target is killed by the Vigilante or Slayer, the Mercenary joins the Mafia. If the Cypher kills the target, the Mercenary can choose to work for the Mafia OR the Townsfolk

Frost: so they get a new target? No, it'd be weird to just switch anyways, and it doesn't fit with the Mercenary part, or the spirit of the role. I'm leaning towards Possibility Four. That way, the Mafia may shy from killing the Mountaineer, and if a Townsfolk killing role kills the Mountaineer, it's sort of punishment for the Mercenary to join the Mafia, unless the Mountaineer became the Kidnapper
-
no, Sniper implies like sniping someone lol I like 'the Punisher'... hmmm. Maybe Executioner. or... 'the Justicator'- lol they bring justice down on a lawbreaker. Maybe like 'the Judge of Life' lol. I know: the AoJ, or Agent of Justice lol I dunno EDIT: Sinistral I love 'the Mercenary'! Perfect... I've always wanted to use that name for a role!
-
see the post above yours lol edit: the pattern would either be this: POSSIBILITY ONE * target dies: Hermit gets new target POSSIBILITY TWO * target dies: Hermit dies POSSIBILITY THREE * Mafia kills target: Hermit joins Mafia * Townsfolk role (Vigilante or Slayer) kills target: Hermit joins Townsfolk * Cypher kills target: Hermit has free choice of which faction to join POSSIBILITY FOUR * Mafia kills target: Hermit joins Townsfolk * Townsfolk role (Vigilante or Slayer) kills target: Hermit joins Mafia * Cypher kills target: Hermit has free choice of which faction to join

about the Hermit, I realized that the Mountaineer would know very quickly who the Hermit was, probably. Maybe. I'm thinking the target should be a random person chosen by me, and the role name doesn't have to be 'Hermit'... hmm. And if the target person dies some other method, the Hermit/whatever joins the faction that killed the target. Ie, if the Mafia kill the target, the Hermit joins the Mafia, or if the Vigilante/Slayer kills the target, the Hermit becomes an Innocent. Something like that. If the Cypher kills the target... then the Hermit would join a faction of his/her choice. Or something. Possible names for this role: * Hermit (doesn't seem to fit the idea of a Hermit) * Renegade (not sure it fits) * Executioner (I don't like this one, though it kinda fits) * Assassin (implies night kill tho...) * Agent (agent of what? lol) * Monk (similar to Hermit) * hmmm... still thinking...

We are animals, just like all other animals. It's the height of arrogance and ignorance to say that we are vastly different enough from other animals to put ourselves in a different kingdom of classification. But just because we are the most intelligent and developed species on the planet does not give us the right to "depopulate the Earth". We should have a deep respect for the Earth and the other animals on it, as well as the environment and habitats in which we and others grow and prosper. To target your last sentence specifically, nobody IS accountable for causing the crisis we have today, humanity did it as a whole, and it's no use throwing blame around, it's time to fix the problem that we caused so that we don't leave a scarred planet behind us. We have to respect nature and the world we live in, it's part of our own inherent nature to survive and pass down our genes. It always amazes me when theists and god-believers with "morals" show their true colors, ie, 'without my religion/deity-of-choice I would just be a serial killer or a mass murderer or depopulate the earth in any manner I choose and not be held accountable', which just makes me laugh at their so-called moral code- held in place by fear/awe of a higher power, and not by true compassion for your fellow beings I only bring up this point because of the user above me flamed atheists, basically We aren't better than animals, and we aren't better than our Earth, and we need to respect that and do something about it and save humanity and its environment. Throwing around things like 'we must be better than everyone else cuz we're more advanced' is irrelevant to the situation. As yoktado, it doesn't matter what your religion is, you should see the need that we need to do something, especially now

lol btw I'm probably not going to use the Graverobber, or as what it is now, though I may impliment another kind of role that starts out Independent and becomes a faction. The Graverobber just to has too many unknowns and potential imbalances. Maybe we'll see how it fares in your Pirate Mafia, if you do that one. Though I'll still consider it... or maybe a similar role that joins a faction somehow, but... I dunno. I don't think Beggar is a good idea cuz the Cypher is similar but more of a sound concept and better wincondition. Oh and I'm thinking about making it 4 Independents, with that last two Independents counterparts of each other. Like, the Renegade and the Enforcer, who's in the village trying to catch the Renegade, or something, and those two play a game of cat and mouse during the rest of the commotion. Not sure. Or maybe something like 'the Clockwork Devil' or something lol. OMG! I just thought of the perfect name... the Gargoyle! What could it be, though? Looks normal by day, but at night comes to life and... what? I don't want the third Indepedent role to be another killer. wait wait wait! lol The Gargoyle's goal is to get a specific person lynched. They know who the Mountaineer is and their goal is to lynch the Mountaineer so that they can have peace on their mountaintop. So the entire game, the Gargoyle is just trying to lynch the Mountaineer! Gargoyle doesn't fit the role anymore... how about the Hermit? * Hermit - the Hermit is an Independent character who spends his/her time at the top of the mountain whose slopes the village is on. The Hermit doesn't like the Mountaineer disturbing his/her meditating peace, and thus the Hermit's entire goal is to get the Mountaineer lynched at some point in the game

interesting... so he just gets told the numbers, then he picks one of the dead players and gets the role. Niiice... if they picked a Townsfolk-turned-Werewolf, what happens? Obviously if the Alpha Werewolf has been lynched, the Graverobber would get the Townsfolk version of the role, but what if the Werewolves were still alive? and yeah what if they pick the original Alpha Werewolf? (can't do if AW was lynched, they would know the identity and I would forbid that, but if the original AW died at night, I would have to tell the Graverobber that that person was them...hmmm...) can the Graverobber pick the Cypher? can the Graverobber be bitten? My guess would be no, since they still don't have a faction anyway. anyway, this is a really interesting idea! Thanks Sinistral! I'll think more on this and then probably add it

Just bringing this up here as discussion for Ysan's M4F14 too. And in case anyone has a good idea for a third Independent role, say it here

Phaze, you said the 'catalyst is blamed', as in 'religion is blamed unjustly'. But a catalyst of conflict should be blamed- a catalyst of a conflict by definition is what starts the conflict. Religion starts wars, starts suffering, starts bigotry. It starts in-group/out-group hatred and world unstability. Like GC said, that cannot be denied. Yes, religion is often used an excuse for many conflicts, but just as many (probably more) are directly caused by religion, and those that interpret/misinterpret it this was my response to someone on page 2 that claimed that religion no longer started wars: I disagree- I don't disagree that religion is used as a scapegoat to cover up the real reasons behind certain, but you can't just make a sweeping statement like that- it's not true of all wars just because it is of some. See some of my posts on page 1, but I'd also like to add that some wars have religion as an excuse, like you said, but that doesn't make it any more acceptable, and it shouldn't. I know you weren't saying it was (lol this is pro-peace), I'm just saying that fact doesn't make religion look any better. A very high percentage of those in favor of the war in Iraq (I'm speaking of Americans here) are pro-Bush and pro-religion (very religious). Again, I said 'high percentage', it's not like everyone is, there are different reasons to support the war (I don't support it, even though I said some wars may be necessary- not the Iraq war), but most that do are religious and much of those are Republicans, and it ties together Anyway, that's in the cases of "non-religious wars under the banner of religion". You said that the age of crusades is over. It's far from over. One look at the Middle East can tell you that. Sure, this war is for land, that war is for no reason, this war is for terrorism... but the land, the reasons, the terrorism.... all those roots are religion. And then the majority of the rest are religion through and through. Holy land, holy cities, promised temples, biblical land ("been ours since <insert biblical figure doing something biblical>"), holy books, disputes about religions, even the tiniest points in the religion (Suuni and Shi'ite (sp?) sects of Islam, etc) can cause bloody feuds because "our holy book, which is the only right one, says X, yours says Y, time to die!" lol. It's impossible to ignore the negative impact of religion in the Middle East (and it's not confined just to the Middle East, but a lot is centered there). Sure, wars started by the US or big powers can't hope to be for religious reasons, but these rivalries in the Middle East are. It all stems from religion... and each race/religion's holy book somehow says that their god proclaimed that that specific race/religion is the only rightful one. Hmmmm.... lol. A little bit of coincidence there methinks ;D anyway, this isn't a debate on religion, but of its effects on war and feuds and violence, even today. The time of crusades is far from over, which is why pro-peace topics like these are more important than ever

Usain Bolt is insanely fast. The last name says it all ;D

yeah Mafia VII won't be for a while. After I get the scavenger hunt done, I won't be on much anymore
-
awwww lol. Nice prologue

no, hers is M4F14, sort of a space-themed game. Kind of like my Mini LOST Mafia, but bigger, different themed. It's essentially Mafia VI repeated with a few different roles, though IMO it doesn't fix any problems I saw with MVI. This one I'm planning now will be Mafia VII, whenever I return to host it ;D anyway, I've decided against the current Renegade role, though I like and might use the name 'Renegade', cuz it's awesome

The Tourist would drop the discovery ability if bitten, of course, though the Tourist is far from being finished so I won't edit yet

changes to Cypher, Hitman, Tourist, Firework Maker, Cryptanylist Mafia VII Takes place in a remote village... Factions: * Independent (3) * Mafia (5) * Townsfolk (10) Independent: * Alpha Werewolf - [knows who Slayer is] bites one person each night to "infect" them with lycanthropy. The new Werewolf can still use their usual role ability, but is now sided with the Alpha Werewolf, and all Werewolves have BTSC. If the Alpha Werewolf tries to bite a Mafioso OR Cypher, he/she is informed that the target was either Mafia or the Cypher, and the Alpha Werewolf can pick a different target. If the Alpha Werewolf is lynched, all living Werewolves die too, but if the Alpha Werewolf dies at night, a new Werewolf is picked to become the Alpha Werewolf. The Werewolves win when 4 or more Werewolves are alive, including the Alpha Werewolf * Cypher - [knows who CA is] the Cypher is a serial killer who leaves a mathematical code to his/her next victim. The Cypher chooses his/her kill each night for the following night, so on the first night there is no kill, but there is still a code for the 2nd night victim. And on the 2nd night, the Cypher picks the victim for the 3rd night, etc. The code is uniform throughout. The Cypher is invincible to werewolf bites as well as normal death, the only way they can die (at first) is being caught by the Cryptanylist. The Cryptanylist, or CA, is a Townsfolk-sided code-breaker who picks one person each night (except the 1st) whom they think is the Cypher's victim for that night. If the CA is correct, the Cypher is caught and killed. If the CA dies, the Cypher becomes vulnerable to normal death, but still cannot be bitten by the Alpha Werewolf. The Cypher wins if he/she is still alive and killing when another faction wins, ie, they win together * ? Mafia: * Don - the leader of the Mafia group. If checked by the Spy, is seen as a random non-Werewolf Townsfolk role from the 9 non-Spy roles * Consigliere - the personal adviser to the Don. Picks one person each night and collects data on them via contacts, learning their role (including if they are a Werewolf or not). If the Don dies, the Consigliere takes over as head of the Mafia, having both the Don's ability and the Consigliere's original ability * Hitman - one of the most skilled hitmen in the Mafia's arsenal. Kills anyone that visits him/her at night (Alpha Werewolf, Spy, Medic, Herbalist, Slayer, Mountaineer, but NOT CA or Tourist) or, in the case of the Vigilante, there is a 50-50 chance who wins the fight (Hitman or Vigilante). If Cypher visits the Hitman while the CA is still alive (and the Cypher is thus invincible), the Hitman is killed. However, if the CA is dead and the Cypher goes after the Hitman, the Hitman kills the Cypher * Bankroller - controls the Mafia's finances as well as its legitimate businesses. Everyone knows who the Bankroller is from the getgo, and thus the Bankroller is sort of the spokesperson for the Mafia, but if the Bankroller is lynched, he/she can pick anyone to kill in the lynching if the Hitman is still alive * Framer - can frame someone each day. If the Spy picks that person the following night, the Spy is told 'Framer'. Nobody is informed if/when a framing takes place or who was framed Townsfolk: * Spy - spies on one person each night and gets their exact role (except in the special case of the Don), including Werewolf role if they've been bitten * Medic - an unofficial doctor who prowls around the village at night. The Medic can save two people each night (from death only, not from werewolf bites), with no restrictions on who EXCEPT for the fact that the Spy is too elusive to protect while snooping someone. If the Spy decides not to spy on someone, they are savable by the Medic * Herbalist - can cure lyncanthropy, but only if done within minutes of the bite, and thus each night the Herbalist can pick one person to save from the Alpha Werewolf's bite * Slayer - picks one person each night except the first night. If the person is a Werewolf, they are slain. The Slayer cannot be bitten by the Alpha Werewolf * Vigilante - kills one person each night except the first night * Firework Maker - lives in a house full of explosives and gunpowder. If the Mafia or Alpha Werewolf or Cypher visits, they see it and may retreat, OR keep going, but with a 1/2 chance of the person (either Alpha Werewolf or Hitman or Cypher) being blown up. If Hitman is already dead, a random living Mafioso is picked instead. If there is no explosion, the Firework Maker is killed or bitten as normal, but if there is an explosion (1/2 chance), there is a 2/3 chance the Firework Maker will die in it. During the day, the Firework Maker picks someone. If that person is the Framer, the Framer's frame is not successful, and both the Spy and the Mafia are notified (but not the Firework Maker). The Firework Maker can pick the same person two days in a row if he/she wishes * Mayor - the acting Mayor of the small village has a few privileges. First, his/her vote secretly counts as 2, and secondly, if the Mayor is lynched, his/her role is revealed but he/she does not die * Tourist - the only person with a laptop or internet connection in this mountain village. The Tourist was just here for the getaway and nice views when the troubles began, and just wants to get back home. Unfortunately, they're stranded here and must help the Townsfolk. Each day, the Tourist can look someone up on their laptop, and learns their werewolf status (bitten or not bitten), but the data is also sent to the Cypher, who has hacked the Tourist's computer. Also [link to third Independent role] * Mountaineer - the Mountaineer likes to go on late-night hiking trips, and can pick one person to take with him/her. The picked person is immune from being killed or bitten, but they cannot perform any night action. The Spy can still spy on them, and if the chosen person is the Don, the Don's true identity is revealed to the Spy. If the Mountaineer picked the last Mafioso, there is no Mafia kill. If they picked the Alpha Werewolf, the Alpha Werewolf bites the Mountaineer as the bite for that night. Once the Mountaineer has taken someone on a climb, they cannot do it again * Cryptanylist - the Cryptanylist, or CA, is an expert code-breaker whose goal is to crack the Cypher's code and figure out the serial killer's next victim. Each night, except the first, the CA picks someone who they think will be the Cypher's victim. The CA must give me some logical reasoning to prove it's not just a random guess, and if they are correct, the Cypher is caught and killed. The Cryptanylist can choose themselves There are names for when a Townsfolk gets bitten and turns into a Werewolf: * the Spy becomes the Prowler [can still use Spy ability] * the Medic becomes the Guard Dog [can still use Medic's ability] * the Herbalist becomes the Stray [new ability: votes count secretly x2] * the Vigilante becomes the Rabid Attacker [can still kill] * the Firework Maker becomes the Firework Wolf [keeps abilities] * the Mayor becomes the Prime [keeps abilities] * the Tourist becomes the Snarler [probably keeps abilities, not sure] * the Mountaineer becomes the Kidnapper [keeps ability] * the Cryptanylist becomes the Bloodhound [keeps ability]

yeah I got the Cypher idea from an episode of Numb3rs I'm thinking, for the last Independent, a role called 'the Renegade'. They're a criminal on the run hiding out in the village, and they would just have to make it alive to the 4th day before the government gives up looking for them. Nobody in the village realizes this- except the Tourist. The Tourist can check someone against the Renegade's picture in their laptop each night, and if they find the Renegade, the police come and nab the Renegade. The picture gets taken down after the 4th night, so the Renegade wins on the 4th day. This would be won, or all, not sure, of the Tourist's abilities what do you guys think? The Renegade might have some minor powers to, which he/she can use to help prolong his/her life. Maybe a limited number of powers. For example, the Renegade can save himself from death at night once only, and they also can use an ability once only at night which prevents them from being lynched the next day (revealed in day post, so people would know who the Renegade was after that...) or something. Maybe the Renegade can use the one save on ANYONE, in case they need to do that to extend the game. Or something. Not sure. What do you think?
