  1. And yes, the patty flipper is helping society in a different way. What good is the invention of fast food if there is noone to make it? And don't get me started on the crimes against humanity corporations have and still commit.
  2. UtF: 1. I'm a deist, so I don't know if that counts as religious or not. 2. Going back to your potential system, you have forgotten one thing: luck. A person who seems to be able to contribute to society may all of a sudden be out of work or dead because of some sort of bad luck. Same the other way around, only with good luck. 3. It's not only rich people, it's mostly rich people. The cost (and it will never be one mil. Izzy's right) will be spread throughout the social scale, just more so on those that can support it. You can't tell if the baby will contribute to society, and yes, we can't know if it will. But I'm willing to take that chance. For Universal: 1. Izzy 2. Zerep (right?) 3. gvg Against: 1. UtF
  3. I don't mean to bring back what we were arguing about before, but... If anybody hasn't watched the movies seven pounds, I think they should. For UtF: Unless someone is willing to go to the lengths that the main character did in that movie, he/she should have no problem with a few taxes. Guns: Really, this isn't a big issue for me. I'm not a gun nut, but they shouldn't be illegal. I like what Izzy said, but I want to add BB and airsoft guns should fall under the same, maybe a tad less, scrutiny as normal guns. They can cause close to the same damage and are almost as dangerous, especially airsoft.
  4. ... Although I have to admit, if a person doesn't even bother trying to get a job, they shouldn't be able to ride it out on welfare. They have to try at least.

    ... Cause he can...
  6. I understand. Trust me, I don't like it either. But since this is a new constitution, we have to remember that compromises are part of the process. The founding fathers had to compromise on some tough things (although one, congress, failed it seems =))
  7. There was a child in Peru, born without arms or legs, that was thrown in the TRASH by his parents. He was found and taken to a shelter. Today, through the use of prosthetic limbs, he is able to walk, play, write, etc. He has made friends and is a bright boy in school. But of course, under your idea, he would have died. Great. What I meant by my idea is that we should give them enough to have at least the minimum amount needed for the operation they need. I was trying to make a compromise. We still have to give them enough to survive their illness.
  8. Izzy said exactly what I was thinking. If they choose to work at McDonald's, they obviously care enough to get a job and try and advance through life. OK, maybe they shouldn't get the best quality, which wold definitely cost more. How about this: The further you are from minimum wage (farther meaning higher), the more you get. Hmmmmm?????
  9. This doesn't happen. The only way you can be eligible for the government option is when you are working. Thus, it makes it beneficial to start looking for a job. Also, as a liberal, and who's family (not necessarily me, I'm too young, but I will =)) are taxpayers, yes, I have no problem giving some of my powers to the government. You see, I think the major difference between you and me, UtF, is that we think of humans differently. I consider humans evil immediately, and selfish (which is why I think that the masses would benefit from having a leader that makes the right decisions for them. Even though you make think of representatives as a king, they are a 'king' that can be removed painlessly after four years). Meanwhile, you think of humans as automatically nice, and able to make the right decisions. This would be the only way that many of your ideas could work. After all, even you have agreed that we agree on much of the big picture. For those wanting a direct democracy: No. This is the reason. As somebody pointed out, not everyone will vote. Most Americans don't even vote for the president. There will be so many things to vote on that most people would not be able to do so, either because of lack of time or lack of interest. So, eventually, the only ones voting would be those that don't need to work or don't have a job. MOST Americans would not be represented, and thus the point behind the idea would be lost. Our nation's laws would either be controlled by the extremely rich (which I would hate) or the extremely poor (which I and UtF would hate; I want to help most of the poor (that aren't free loaders), but if it was mostly poor voting, they would pass laws that help them and screw everyone else). There are too many things to vote on.

    Evidence of God's Design

Well, scripture hasn't changed. That's what I see.
  11. UtF: For the amendment process, I simply meant that a majority of the states population (majority rules) has to vote yes, and 40 of 50 'yeses' are needed to pass. And again, it's simply the republicans opposing Obama. They don't care about the people: they just want Obama to fail. If Obama were to bring up something, say the voluntary thing you wanted, they would oppose it. Formula for congress: 'Obama wants _____. Republicans say no.' That's it. So something has to be done about this; it would have been the same either way. I say we have a law saying that there is a direct election of senators, but they cannot be from any political parties. Thus, they are judged only on what their policies are. Heck, we could do it for president too. But I hate the electoral vote thing; it's the reason we had Bush instead of Gore =)

    Evidence of God's Design

hambone: It happened through evolution. Laying eggs on the spider turned out to work, so the behavior was kept. Not saying that this proves God doesn't exist, as I think He does and He started evolution, but that's how it happened. Izzy: Where do you find this stuff????????? =)

    Evidence of God's Design

Izzy: hambone isn't trying to cause a distraction. The point of this was to state his beliefs and why he believed it, and suddenly, he was attacked on all sides. It's not him causing the disruption, it's everyone else.

    Evidence of God's Design

OK now that I know what trolling is, I disagree. hambone is simply someone who is defending his religion. I went through confirmation, and I know that the courage to defend your religion even if someone persecutes you is a gift of the holy spirit. Thus, I see hambone as a good Christian, not a troll. (Dammit hambone, if I'm defending you for nothing... )

    Evidence of God's Design

Let me explain what I think: Physics is the 'science' of God; that is to say, God works through the laws defined by physics. To me, He started everything through the big bang. He set up the laws that govern everything. And He is still there. But I am considered a deist, apparently, because to me, although he's there to help if you ask, he really hasn't done a whole lot since the big bang. He set evolution in motion, thus he technically created life, although indirectly. He made the laws, and allowed them to go on there path. That is why I'm not a big fan of the book of Genesis, or most of the old testament for that matter; I don't think he said "okay, let me build this whole thing in six days." He made the laws, and let them go. 14 billion years later, here we are. Now, I do think that he steps in when things are getting too out of hand (sending Jesus) but he doesn't do it often. So yes, the site you saw was, indirectly, created by God, since He set the laws and other things in motion that eventually created those events. He set evolution in motion, which eventually led to you and your enjoyment of this moment. Etc, etc. The afterlife thing: I believe in heaven and hell, and thus in an afterlife. The reason many (though not me) are afraid of death is because of what andromeda said: The will to survive is in our DNA. I hope I didn't confuse anyone =)

    Evidence of God's Design

I've been following this thread for some time now, and have noticed that it has turned into a mob of personal attacks, mostly from the atheist side. I've seen the idea tossed around that hambone is 'corrupting the minds of children' and forcing his beliefs on others. Two things I have to tell you all: 1. If a child throws away whatever beliefs he had over some random thread on a riddle internet site filled with people they don't know, then he or she has bigger problems. I'm under 18, technically a child, and neither side of the argument has affected me either way. I know my own beliefs. 2. The atheists on this thread are forcing their ideas on everyone else the same amount, if not more so, than hambone. There's nothing wrong with believing in God, so stop acting as though it's a crime to do so. This post was made to just explain why hambone believes what he believes. It wasn't meant to turn into an argument, and the fact that hambone has tried to stop it while the atheists haven't shows who really wants everyone to believe what they do. Also: While hambone has shown his reasons for believing in a God, many of the comments by those who disagree with him have, as of late, (some haven't) attacked his 'lack' of scientific knowledge. I wrote this because I feel that everyone is against one person. If hambone is actually a troll, then I'm sorry for writing this. However, I don't think he is; he is simply someone who wanted to state their beliefs and why they believe them and have been persecuted for it. His personal experience is enough to show why he believes what he does; everybody lay off.

Well, I would think that eventually the brain wouldn't be able to hold any more information. Have you seen Indiana Jones Crystal Skull? One person asked for all of the knowledge of the universe, and her brain exploded. So the brain's capacity isn't unlimited, but as long as you don't want to know all the facts of the universe, you're fine =)

I agree with Blah except for one thing: Brazil is the best country in the world. =)

We all know that there are reasons that the so called 'evil' governments don't work (civil rights, economy, human greed, etc.). But IF they worked, and you could pick one that would rule your country, what would it be? (By the way, socialism is NOT a type of government. I see it included a lot when people talk about government. In a socialist republic, the government type would be representative democracy, NOT socialism. However, communism is a government type.) My personal favorite is a meritocracy (I think that's how you spell it) in which the rulers of the nation are those with the highest intellectual power (aka the geniuses. In a meritocracy, Albert Einstein would have ruled his country). What about you????
