  1. You got the answer, I just want you to narrow it down to one. : )

    Yeah, thought that was where the riddle was going but since I could eliminate just one, concluded maybe you wanted the whole question. Ok, with your additional couplet

    mineral?

    (Hey u, is it ok if I call you u or do I have to say upal)

  2. hugemonkey solves Line 2. Well done.

    may like your method for "safe but" = "E" better than mine. I had "but" or butt being the end of the word "safe" = "E"

    Anyone up for extra credit?

  3. BrainDen is the answer

    BRAIN because of what was earlier figured out.

    For the second part:

    Safe but (E=error. In baseball if the runner is safe but it is not a hit it could be because of and Error)

    not out (IN or N)

    after first dodge (D is the first of dodge)

    so DEN is the answer to the second part.

    Excellent, I have a different method for "safe but" and will study yours more. See you are still right here so see real quick if you can find my reasoning behind answer "E" in this line.

  4. heyupal thinks he needs a hint, and drops another illeism! :D :(
    Is dodge = car so R? Thanks!
    :)
    And back to work....

    wrong

    Regarding a hint. Guess I had mentioned to Chess_Vixen I might. Then posted two I told you about and even another since. Granted the two I told you about are pretty obscure. Oops! (pure sarcasm and not another hint). But OK, here's a another. Even make it all official like:

    This second line consists only of what you might call first generation clues like in line one. As opposed to multi-generation clues like A leads to B leads to C (see tiger_lily111's brilliant fourth generation answer for the word "safe"). As for line 3, well...

  5. skinner - no k

    "sinner"?

    Hey no fair, you've done these before. Not it for Line 3. This "Quickie POW" are more like yours where individual letters add up to make the word.

  6. just out of curiosity what is POW?

    It stands for "play on words". They often include things like antonyms or synonyms (double meaning), literal interpretion, homophones, etc. They will often be accompanied by a descriptor word or phrase like "sounds of" or "aloud" for homophones; "in other words" "not" "like" "never" for ants. & syns.

    In the case of my quickie POW's (yes, hope there will be more) each word or two (generally speaking) of the puzzle corresponds to a letter spelling out the answer and other descriptors can be thrown in refering to the relation of individual letters. Here are two examples I had put in another post.

    asp arched shape around kid

    --asp is a snake which is "S" shaped

    --arched again shape yields "C"

    --around or phonetically a round or "O"

    --kid meaning to make fun of or tease = "TT"

    Put it all together and get SCOTT

    Golly, a circular well graded and raised track

    --Golly or gee = "G"

    --a circular = "O"

    --well graded as in a test at school = "A"

    --raised track or el = "L"

    So you get GOAL

  7. Ok, I'm trying to go out on a limb since it seems I'm just not thinking right on word 2. Here are my musings, but I can't really say that I have anything resembling an answer.

    Safe - sure, positive, +/t/T

    secure, tie up, knots/Q

    stable, stationAry/A

    But - butt, rear end, Z?

    butt up to, abut, next to?

    Not - Knot/Q?, except I can't figure out a U from "out"

    Not Out - In/N

    Not Out - safe (as in baseball) - something else for "safe"?

    After - O (comes after N?)

    First - 1/I or A

    or After First? - B?

    or what letter is after the first letter in this word?

    Dodge - ball, round/O

    avoid, go around, S

    Maybe it'll help someone else. Hopefully won't just make everyone confused!

    Nice work. You really have a lot of the concepts behind the words of Line 2. Including what I thought would be the hardest. Just not the full solutions (of all) the letters in the answer. Was going to give a hint. I know too many correspondences can confuse. You're just so close. Would suggest rereading my original hint regarding the methodology of solving this puzzle. Like I said was going to give a hnt. Now think that could spoil it.

    Gotta leave the room. Feel free to talk among yourselves. Will check in from time to time.

  8. hope it helps..

    we have BRAIN for the first part..here's my stab at the second one..

    safe = sound = whole/hole = O

    but = butt.. = S

    not out = in = N

    after =

    first = A

    dodge =

    that's all I got just now...

    Hello and welcome back, love your logic on the word "safe". Will have to remember that one. So yeah, fraid not what I was thinking. Brilliant none the less. Am thinking about posting a clue soon.

  9. Thank you!!! I appreciate that. Yes!!!!!!! This is the answer to the riddle. So, the last hint helped. Yay!

    Yes, I definitely looked at the hint for help. One thing that did throw me off the track a little earlier was:

    that cottage cheese is curds and whey i think which helped me confuse myself.

  10. Most excellent riddle!

    cottage cheese

    !!!!ATTENTION!!!!! BIG HINT!!!!

    When this riddle is complete,

    You'll have something that you eat!!

  11. Exist = be or B

    exist = are or R

    one = a singular or A

    single = solo or I

    lodge = Inn or N

    BRAIN

    Safe without the T

    but

    not

    out

    after = next or X

    first (letter) = A

    dodge.

    As you can see I'm still working on it! Very entertaining!:D

    The first word is solved! Reasoning is spot on.

    No right letters in the second word.

    Excellent, please do keep going.

    The next two lines are increasingly tougher.
