As per normal I can't see the whole, merely ideas of the parts.
X - cross, T? (or just an X)
in - N
back, behind, butt, end
for, fore/afore, before
example - ex/X, ie/I (eye/aye?), eg-egg -> something else?
line two is correct in = "N" and that last line of yours contains the same relevent tidbit as before; just needs the correct manupulation.

Please play along. I think/hope this one will start to reveal itself. I'll be answering each correct letter at a time. It's alot easier, of course, to work backwards from the answer.Wow, I don't think I can even wrap my brain around this and even begin to try and solve it! -
two curves in back=spine=S
and X together i get excess.
the "S" but you're wasting too many words in the riddle.
-
For example might be "eg" or "ie"
two curves maybe ( + ) = "o"
Part of your first line is relevent.
two curves yields "+" so no to that one.
-
Ok, so before we all start going insane, could you clarify ...
Are we looking at 2 lines, or just what's in bold? Thanks! =)
The riddle/word puzzle is contained entirely in the one line in bold.
This one line represents a phrase not unfamiliar. Each word or two (generally speaking) of the puzzle corresponds to a letter or two (generally speaking) spelling out the answer. Other descriptors can be thrown in refering to the relation of individual letters.
Also, will grade work as we go along.

Let me bounce this one off of you for a little back and forth:
X two curves in back for example
And as before - show your math for full credit.

Exist, exist one single lodge:
Exist = be = B
exist = are = R
one = singular = A
single = one = I
lodge = Inn phonetically = N
BRAIN - first submitted by heyupal
Safe but not out, after first dodge:
Safe but = safe butt phonetically = last letter in the word safe = E
not out = in = N
first dodge = first letter of the word dodge = D
after = not a letter in the answer but a descriptor meaning E and N are after D
DEN - figured out by hugemonkey
then the extra credit - Period B.F. no k:
Period = dot = .
B.F.= initials of Ben Franklin = $100 = C-note (or Roman numerals) = C
no = zero = O
k = 1000 = (roman numerals again) M
.COM - by committee: Lotus, hugemonkey, chicory, and spyder510 snipes in at the end.
These get much easier with time as many clues and my style become familiar. WARNING: They can also effect your train of thought and how you read other types of riddles.
Thanks to all who participated. Anyone up for another? Oops, too late. Check it out.....

b.f. = bejnamin franklin = 100 dolla bill yo. 100=C
Correct! Most excellent. Full solution and credits follow....
-
blue before I reread and made an important discovery-it did not say impotent. too funny
-
ehhk is 1000 today, m was in roman times
Yey, only one left. Put it all together and we can go fly a kite.
-
but of course, good one...it has probably already been solved, but I wanted to make a guess before I read any of the other posts.the letter H
-
no=none=0
but i can't get c or m...
Go back, way back, past grade school, now further, like ancient times.
-
of course you are correct but how does B.F.=C and how does k=M?
It must be .comso the total answer is BrainDen.com
period= "." or dot
B.F. = "c" ?
no = 0 or "O"
k = "m" ?
-
I don't understand, what's your guess at the answer?
house mouse. Just liked it so much and being so early in the a.m. and so few folks online and spoilers being as tempting as they are, thought others would like to guess.
-
who you are but never knew you binomial nomenclature. Had to look that part up. Nice trap tho a little too cheesey.
Enjoyed the riddle alot.

shadow riddle; left the house pre-dawn, came back at dusk?
-
thanks pal. makes sense to me. didnt see you there. sup?And hello to all.....3 primary, 7 colors ROYGBIV, 3 become six, baby is 7th color that people argue? -
I don't know why for kicks.
with primary colors 3 red blue yellow can make secondary (baby) colors...and then the threesome (tertiary colors) worked out bad but then the baby thing?
The last part with two more came (black and white it would seem) makes sense/fits so I still think you're right.
-
color wheel?
But what about "we kept the baby for kicks?
-
<falls flat on face>
I don't think I will ever understand these. At least, not tonight...

Just like a word clue suggests a letter, it could suggest a number which in turn suggests a letter.
-
didn't help. Just confused me more. I've got
Period=dot?
no=number?
dot is correct. Do you have the whole answer? BrainDen_____ Then work backwords starting with the answer, using the hint above, and back to the clue to establish the reasoning.
-
Any interest in the extra credit? If so:
You will need to use two things you can write but are not letters.
'Bought to put this one to bed. Am thinking all are tired of this. (Two puns, zero hints)
One last attempt to resurrect in the form of a
Got to think anyone who is reading this and has been following is working backwards to solve the E.C. If not, that's the first hint. (really only one answer, really obvious, reread the title)
Finally, in working backwards, convert to numbers first using similar stategies as with letters. Then make corrolation back to the riddle
