  1. I agree. We should carefully proceed. I suggest we specifically look for traps and/or ambushes.
  2. According to that post, he should have had 5 rations. I guess I should also check my bags since Scout and Gregor both left . That would leave me with the only rations.
  3. I forgot to report back about the bags. John's bags had lichen in it, similar to what is here. I was not able to inspect Calcutta's bags as he refused to let me. edited to add: I will wait for scout to do his job. @Scout - I'd advise you to let Mandrake and Kirkpatrick to go first. As they are so willing to inspect ahead for more traps, we should graciously accept their offer.
  4. It's the "remnants of the dead..." couplet that keeps throwing me off. W/o that line, I'd guess As to the forum activity, I've seen it ebb and flow since I've been active here (I think I started coming to the forums when you were still posting new riddles regularly. I think one of the first riddles I worked on here was one of yours but I can't remember exactly which one.) My feeling is that it depends on how many riddle writers are active. I've never been good at writing the riddles so I haven't contributed much on that end. But it seems that the forum will go through spurts of new riddle writers which will generate a lot of activity for awhile, at least until the writers either run out of riddles or move on to something else.
  5. The doctor goes as well.
  6. I'm still deciding whether to continue, but I'm leaning towards joining. Those who choose to head back and wait for the rescue party will be less likely to succumb to the cold and need my services. I'm also interested in seeing what lies ahead and I think the party will need me to treat frostbite and any other injuries. @Mandrake - Why do you believe that food will not be needed once we reach the summit? I think we should figure out who wants to halt and give them their fair share of the rations. Then those of us continuing should head out and hope we can find alternate sustenance.
  7. Segul is no longer available?
  8. I've done all I can to treat the frostbite. I need some rest now. I will say that abandoning people at this point is pretty much sentencing them to death if we don't leave them supplies. @Mordock - I expected a little more loyalty from a fellow military man. You first say you want to find the killer. Then you say you suspect Kirkpatrick because he doesn't serve a purpose while also pointing out that you are also fairly useless. I guess you weren't so suspicious when you agreed to accept his money? I think that the treachery of the climb combined with frostbite will do more then enough to even out the rations over the next few days. If we are in such a hurry to simply dismiss people from the expedition then I still say we should lose those who were so adamant to quit from the beginning. Choose between the useless guide and the priest. The guide seems happy to turn back and I believe the priest's prayers will be just as effective whether he's with us or not. Or we could quit bickering like children and attack this mountain as we initially planned. Let's accomplish our mission and let the proper authorities take care of the killer assuming the mountain/demons/cold/floaty abominable snowman don't beat them to it.
  9. <Hieronymus> I agree with Scout. Red and Green appear to be equal in area. Yellow looks to be slightly higher in area with Red being a little less.
  10. You were supposed to be in charge of organizing and overseeing the expedition. And now we've had a murder and our supplies are being stolen. Perhaps if you were a bit better at your 'purpose', we'd be in better shape. I do agree though that should try to get rid of the murderer. And I hardly believe that a man as wealthy as Kirkpatrick would need to set up an expedition such as this just to murder an explorer. And I certainly don't think he'd risk doing it himself. I think the most likely reason to murder the elder Brontson was to sabotage the expedition. I personally think that the guide (who seems to have used up his usefulness anyway by now) and the priest (whose prayers haven't done much for us lately) are the ones who have argued the loudest against continuing. Although John has also indicated he'd rather not continue, but a man of his age has learned to not speak so loudly. We can continue these discussions as we travel tonight, there's little to be gained by sitting around here and waiting. And perhaps Calcutta would be willing to tell us how he obtained his own provisions as that would be helpful as well...
  11. Another nice one Shakee. I particularly like the "sting will sting/stem the stinger's bite" line. Parsing that pretty much led me to the answer
  12. <Hieronymus> I'm beginning to question Brontson's ability to select men. It seems that several of you didn't want to ascend the mountain to begin with. Perhaps this murder was simply a way to sabotage the expedition? And many others signed up for the expedition w/o any plans to actually participate?? All I can say is that I didn't come this far just to give up at the first sign of difficulty. I'm going to get some sleep and come nightfall, I'm heading up the mountain with Scout and whoever else has integrity to follow through on their word.
