No matter where it is inside the circle, it appears to be continuously traveling upward. In this manner there is always an ant behind another and they are each continuously travailing up hill. But I suppose then one can not be the last ant ... So maybe, because the ant can not look behind it, it does not know and made it up. Either way. Things to do in an elevator: 14. Or maybe one of the ants in front of him is named Me, so there would obviously be an ant behind him. They could be being carried up the hill with their backs to each other. An ant's perception of "up" not being dictated by gravity so much as by the fact that the terrain ahead is sloping closer would lead it to deduce that it is climbing even if, in fact, it is moving in "loops". How come? The 3rd ant is carrying a 4th ant on his back. 3 ants are still walking up the hill and there is one ant behind the 3rd ant. If you want to get technical and say the 4th is above the 3rd ant, then the 3rd ant is dragging the 4th ant behind him. Either way, the 4th ant isn't walking.
