Question

they figured out that e is an important number
instead of making a ft pi they could make ft e
monks will never tip off zen numbered meanings
some cost we last paid even does cover for all
so they price every cents forty dimes not pies[/codebox]

1)What do these lines mean?

2)What would the next line be if this methodology was continued?

What does 'instead of making a ft pi they could make ft e' mean?? What is 'ft pi' and 'ft e'?? And what exactly is the purpose of a codebox??

Question:

they figured out that e is an important number

Does this mean e the 2.718 or there is a missing 'on' to make the sentence:

they figured out that one is an important number

Still not able to figure out how this is going to be solve. <_<

they figured out that e is an important number

monks will never tip off zen numbered meanings

some cost we last paid even does cover for all

so they price every cents forty dimes not pies

3 – The number of flexibility and versatility; Pythagoras (Pi) considered it the most adaptable and useful of numbers

pi is also 3.14

hmm gotta think some more

ft-Fourier Transform

Fourier series use periodic functions. Originally using sine and cosine functions and integrating from -pi to pi to get the coefficients.

Using Euler's formula, the current method is to use complex exponentials (e^inx).

Hence, ft e instead of ft pi

OK, hint time!

Ft Lauderdale

there is a lot of mis-direction in this one! having math skills like Yoruichi-san is great, but that may just sink you deeper into a bottomless pit. In other words, some random math is most-likely meant to throw people off the scent.

nothing about this puzzle has to do with infinity

the code box is indeed necessary

I'll add a 6th line if these hints just aren't doing it for you ;) but not for a while

Yeah, having math skills *definitely* can sink you into a bottomless pit that will suck up 4-10 years of your life...it's called "college" ;P

As for the puzzle, I don't really know what a codebox does...(they didn't teach Codeboxes 101 at the "bottomless pit" I went to...)

Codeboxs accept white space (where i am lost in usually)

come on Brain Den! the answer is definitely difficult to see, but the first step to getting there certainly isn't. I've decided not to write the next line and am still leaving that up to you guys. (would be a total giveaway...I think)

so, in compensation, here are 2 more hints to get you started in the right direction:

don't worry thinking about the ft stuff, it's almost entirely irrelevant. I only provided Fort Lauderdale as another example of how one can see ft

just think like an Egyptian (and no, this has nothing to do with Egyptian mythology)

they figured out that e is an important number
instead of making a ft pi they could make ft e
monks will never tip off zen numbered meanings
some cost we last paid even does cover for all
so they price every cents forty dimes not pies[/codebox]
If ft = fort, could "fort e" mean "forty"?

Also "a ft pi" = "a forth Pie" or "afford Pie"?

Wow, I'm just confusing myself even more
I think d3k3 is onto something.

Not sure yet what to make of this one...

There is presumably some significance to each line having the same number of characters (46, including spaces). Else why the codebox?

then it's worth nothing that the red letters in the first row is 1 word with 1 letter, the 2nd row is 2 words with 2 letters and so forth, so in the 6th row, there should be six words with six letters makring up the pattern.

I don't think that brings me any closer to finding the answer.

d3k3 is indeed onto something. :D good job seeing that first d3k3, though I'm surprised I had to hint about it... no more hints for a while :P . Also pw0nzd, what you have started to write would not be correct for the next line.

Speaking of hints: there is a hidden hint in one of my previous posts right in the open dialog (not in a spoiler box)

I'm wondering if this has anything to do with Pascals triangle.

------------1-----------------------------------e---------------------
----------1---1-------------------------------ft-pi-------------------
--------1---2---1--------------------------tip-off-zen----------------
------1---3---3---1--------------------last-paid-even-does------------
----1---4---6---4---1-------------price every cents forty dimes-------
--1---5--10---10--5---1-----??????-??????-??????-??????-??????-??????-[/codebox]

Or if there are any mathematics involved?
