  1. This is for #1, right? You may be onto something - that would be an interesting property, although that's not the defining property of the sequence. That was just the Ones Strand, right? Here's a hint for #1 I just realized a stupid mistake I made...... 1995 shouldn't be in the sequence at all!!! GAHHHH!!!! I'm an idiot, I'm so sorry! Sequence for Number Four: 138 777 795 ??? What is the next item in the sequence? Also, anyone make any progress on #2?
  2. Ahhhh, spaghetti :P This will definitely have to be researched
  3. Hopefully these aren't too revealing ;D
  4. You don't find it funny? :o lol

  5. Well the reason I brought that up was because I had it the other week, and it was delicious and I was happy hehe. After I ate it, I was even happier ;D lol edit: it was very tasty, and I had never had creme brulee before or even anything remotely like it (other than flan or pudding, neither of which are close) to compare to, but I was still able to appreciate it
  6. @ post 24 Evolutionarily, you're right - that's the purpose of happiness. But also products of evolution are our intelligent minds, allowing us to think. We can achieve happiness in many ways now Think of sex. Its purpose is to reproduce. Yet, to bring about these actions, it gives intense happiness as a reward. But it doesn't discriminate: If you have sex using a condom or other form of birth control, you still get the 'reward'. In other words, the original purpose of the evolved state misfired. Kind of like how a moth using the moon for navigation ends up dying from flying into a man-made lightbulb. Because we are intelligent and aware of our own actions and can make smart judgements (though oftentimes we don't ), getting end results with different means, or even vice versa As I said in the post you quoted, it's a mix of everything. Your point is a good one but "sadness" isn't part of the picture. Back to my creme brulee example: no creme brulee (neutral state) eat creme brulee -> mmm, tastes good (happiness) Why things taste good is another matter, and because a creme brulee probably isn't healthy for you, this is another evolutionary misfiring ;D Anyway, your body at least thinks it wants you to eat creme brulee, so rewards you with happiness to motivate you to eat the rest of it. This is your model, and mine too Happiness is definitely a motivator. But it doesn't require sadness, unless the "neutral state" of not having creme brulee is actually sadness. Or maybe cuz after you're done eating it, you feel sad Hehe. As I said, struggle is definitely part of life, and happiness and sadness OFTEN go hand in hand, but my point was that it's not ALWAYS that way
  7. as of now, I've done 3 of 21 matches ;D When I get more time I can do a bigger chunk of em

  11. How do you know God is happy? Does god have a brain, because last time I checked, happiness was a combination of neurotransmitters in the hypothalamus ;D Honestly you can't define "happiness" for a supernatural being with no physical counterpart because: (a) they don't actually exist, and/or (b) they wouldn't experience human emotions as we know them When we achieve what our brain considers to be success, certain chemicals are fired down the spinal cord and in the brain as well as in the bloodstream (via the adrenal glands). Our energy is replenished and we feel satisfied and accomplished. This is a direct result of "succeeding", which requires some sort of challenge. Succeeding is a primal instinct which has evolved over millions of years to drive our need for survival So, at least for normal humans, success = happiness, and the more struggle, the more failure, but also the more success. They go hand-in-hand ^ biological perspective v philosophical perspective Some people say "you can't feel happiness without sadness", etc, basically saying that to measure "good" you need something "bad" to compare it to. This is utter BS ;D You can taste an excellent creme brulee (accent marks omitted ) and enjoy without ever having a creme brulee before. This is kind of a flawed example (because you may have had other similar but BAD desserts) but I think you get my point. I'm saying that "success from overcoming struggles" isn't the ONLY conduit of happiness, but is a big one, and I think to have a meaningful life you have to rise and succeed and feel good about yourself doing it. Maybe that's just some Americanism but I think it's an integral part of life So struggle is definitely part of the picture

haha I remember some kid broke part of his back on the zip line edit: it's okay because he was laughing too ;D
  13. Dawh: yeah I know that "they" is bad grammar - I actually learned that in English class this year ;D Since then I've made a point of incorporating more he/she whenever I can as opposed to "they", but "they" has become a good fit and I think the English language has changed a bit.... "they" should be proper to represent an unknown singular ;D But I know it's wrong grammar, so I've been trying to incorporate more he/she As for gendered roles, as I've stated it's just a personal opinion of mine To me it just makes the game less desirable and more artificial. So gendered roles is just an opinion-based matter, really But more of what I was trying to attack was "characters" as opposed to "roles". Mafia is not an RPG or a re-enactment of some form of popular fiction... fundamentally I am against 'naming' roles after characters from a movie/TVshow. One of the reasons I abanonded LOST Mafia Anyway, thanks for the compliment about the guide ;D LIS: There is no 'terrorist' role in Mafia VIII... I'm not sure where you're coming from? I think you're referring to the Grim Reaper in past games? I agree, the GR was tough and I think a lot of luck was involved too, unless they were a highly skilled player ;D

Oh, I email my buddies too - everyone uses email I thought it was talking about sites like facebook & myspace
  15. Nobody has #2 yet, nor is remotely close Nobody has squat on #4

I also disagree with the article... I never understand "Myspace" and "Facebook" and other "social networking sites". My friends sometimes sign me up for them (without my permission I might add ;D) and then I go on and there's like five million different dumb little things to do (especially on Facebook) and five zillion new messages. It's easy to see how you can get sucked in. Which is why I spend my online time on Brainden instead ;D I have really fast typing skills so I can log in, reply to what I need to, and get out ASAP. Unless I'm talking to friends on AIM or something, I like to spend as little time on the computer as possible. **** Note: It's completely different when I'm hosting a Mafia game though Everything changes. My life becomes centered around the computer for those days, it's like my shrine ;D hehe I agree with octopuppy... "in my day" (haha I feel so old ) elementary school consisted of recess, recess and more recess where kids would run around and have fun and actually talk to each other. Nowadays, 4th graders have phones!!

I just have to eyeball it and I can know if it probably will capsize the emulator ;D Hehe. The Gladiator is just above the acceptable line, another reason why I can't enter it
