Claiming random.org or any kind of coinflip decision would have ringed better. Start proving you can bring something to the game and I may change my vote. Also, fixed Slick's vote color.

In a game with so many vanilla roles, saying that during N1, with no pressure whatsoever ??? There are only 4 goodie roles which can act and you just claimed one of those 4. True or not, this will either get you night-killed early on in the game or lynched early on in the game. I'm sorry, but it is a bad move, whatever faction you're in, whatever you hoped to accomplish with this. I know Phaze does it pretty often, in a more elaborate way, my opinion still stands ... it's gamble at the most, and unnecessary during Night 1. OOC: Sorry, but not really. Players and hosts can speak. Ghosts and backups and any other people not currently playing or hosting are not supposed to. And if backups actually feel the need to post, I believe the same rules for ghost posting apply. No on-topic material.

Not really - that's a bot advertising for the link. Check her other posts here. In any case, Rookie will make her disappear.

Yup. I actually wrote that in my location to keep track of it We (EEST=GMT+2) are not synchronized with EST when it comes to daylight savings (that was confusing for about two weeks), but for the most part of the year EST+7 = GMT+2 = EEST (Daylight-savings or not).

The design phase is almost over, taking into account all that's been said in this thread. There are just a few things to iron out behind the scenes before posting the signups, which will happen probably immediately after HP 2 & TMM III.
  9. @Aaryan - experienced players can play this one. This is not a trainer's manual mafia designed exclusively for first-time players. Also, as size increased from the previous HP1 Mafia/Trainer Manual Mafias, there is a need for more players to join. Hopefully EDM will be back tomorrow or the day after and rejoin. And Peace said something about June 4th being end of exams or something. And perhaps Klue found his apartment and play. And curr3nt can finish thinking about Looney Tunes and play some more Mafia before hosting that. And ... a lot of other stuff can happen We'll get started soon.

Hi, see above for the answer:

Well, for q#2 - see Tie Lynch Rules. There are a lot of possibilities to deal with ties, each host has his/her own personal preference.
  13. "Vampires" was a tongue in cheek reference to Blade Mafia. Since you mentioned that some experienced players believe that one can jump into complex Mafia games after at most 1 newbie game or no newbie game at all, I just wanted to say that I (mostly) share that view. Most of the skills required to play Mafia are either already developed (along one's personality development) or not (in which case, no amount of played games will get you past a certain limit, the change must come within. sorta.). Reading and understanding the rules can be done while playing and is greatly improved by asking questions and running scenarios and finding the motives behind other people's moves, etc. Understanding of the game improves after playing more games, but can also be reached (much faster, much easier) in 1-2 complex, very active games along other experienced players. So, I tagged this "faction" of experienced players that share the above view as "vampires" - since, in a way, they believe "one bite is all it takes". I understand that it looks elitist at first glance, but it's not really. Being nice to new players has nothing to do with that opinion. Most of us are pretty nice to new players out of the game, and leave all that at the door when playing. I was recently pretty brutal to Q-Cumber in a game because, well, I thought he was a baddie (and he was) and I wanted to get him to reveal his buddies in a way (which he inexplicably did not ). While playing Mafia, I also had to play the mean ogre to other people (e.g. EDM) just to get a shred of info, and some can't really differentiate between in-game tactics and out-of-game nicety. *shrug*

every other = omitting the next but including the one after that. Alternating. So, the Informant can act N1, N3, N5, etc.

    Newbie Mafia

@Kristmark - to preserve the colors, quote the roster (instead of copying), and remove the quote tags I agree that some people may be inactive for this installment of Trainer's Manual Mafia... but the numbers are not fixed. 8 are usually enough.

    Newbie Mafia

Post count does not necessarily amount to a good read on what people would do. People have jumped right in and signed up for Mafia as their first post
  17. You're welcome Actually, the whole explanation will only be needed once you play other Mafias, with other hosts, that favor the "Precedence" system. Otherwise, it may get very confusing ... we had a thread about the order of actions/precedence and what hosts understand by it, and it turns out there are endless variations (and tweaks) each host feels more natural. B. Figures . I've lived there for a while (9 and a half years), then moved out.

    Newbie Mafia

A rough schedule, for a typical game, once it starts: - each day in game is 24 hours - each night in game is 24 hours - a normal/ classical game (As this one), for 10 players lasts about 4 days and 4 nights = 8 real-time days. At most. So, I think you're can still play it all before that period Starting it now takes a while, since it's been over a month of signups, and people who joined in early (end of April) probably don't check the thread daily just to see if the signups were filled. I will talk with Kat and Nox again tonight to see how this confirmation process can be sped up.

  21. A redirect is an action that is submitted during the night, without knowing the others, as Darth Nox said in the above post. The redirector (A) tries to redirect B to C. If for example B is a spy trying to spy D, then B will spy C instead. Basically, whenever there are more actions possible at the same time (during the same night) questions of which actions can be performed on others are inevitably raised e.g. if A tries to block B and B tries to redirect A to someone else, which goes first? is B blocked before redirecting A or is A redirected to block C instead of B? Different hosts use different universes and have a different vision on how actions happen, so while the interpretation varies from host to host, there are some very common (yet somehow opposite) ways of looking at things: 1) Precedence - all actions happen roughly at the same time, if actions don't clash (like in the above example) nothing needs to be done, but ONLY in the event they do clash there is precedence awarded to one of them. Example: block > redirect means that: - if A tries to block B and B tries to redirect A to someone else ©, then B is blocked. Case 1) if facing one another, the blocker beats the redirector because of precedence - however if A tries to block D and B tries to redirect A to C, then B's redirect goes through and redirects A to C, so C is blocked. Case 2) if they are not facing one another, then the redirector can redirect a blocker. Precedence rule (block>redirect) does not come in play in this case as the blocker is not "looking" at the redirector. The above is also applied when there are longer loops (e.g. A targets B who targets C who targets A). But some hosts (GMaster479 for example) will let all actions happen in a 3-loop as defined above, and apply precedence only when 2 people target each other. 2) Order of actions (OOA) - all actions happen in a certain order (almost, but not exactly chronologically). The above example block > redirect can be used, with the same results. The blocker can block and stop a redirect if he targets the redirector, but can also be redirected away if he does not target the redirector. There is no discernible difference with the precedence defined above for small loops. In bigger loops (A targets B who targets C who targets A), the loop is broken by letting the highest action in the order of actions go first, then reevaluating to see if there are more loops to be broken. If a host wants to force an action to happen before another type of action always... then a different notation is used: >> Example. block >> redirect (note the >> instead of > to distinguish from block>redirect). This means that block beats redirect all the time, regardless of the existence of a loop. It is somewhat chronological, sort of at 10:05 the blocker acts and blocks someone, at 10:20, the redirector can redirect players for the rest of the night, but he cannot redirect a block since the block already happened. In this "universe", a blocker cannot be redirected, period. For this mafia (HP 2), all rules are OOA, and all are >>, which means completely chronological.
  22. thank you. I am however also part of the group of "vampires" you mentioned

    Newbie Mafia

He was travelling for a while and he will be returning soon. But as he is also hosting another big Mafia at the moment, there are plenty of backup hosts available: Kathleen and/or Darth Nox for example. In the meantime, since it's been awhile since the first signup till now, how about a quick round of confirmation? Basically, just quote the roster (like the voting process described in the Newbie Guide), remove the quote tags and add "confirming" to your name. Once this is done, hopefully later today, or tomorrow, roles can go out (for a 10-player Mafia or less, depending on confirmations) Hosts: Hirkala OR Kathleen & Darth Nox 1. The son of rage and love 2. Psychosmurf 3. Akriti 4. Kokiri971 5. mangamathsfreak 6. Auramyna 7. Aaryan 8. Yodell 9. Mukul Verma 10. kristamark1
