Have you ticked "Remember these options"?
  3. Seiai, I am glad that you are interested in this brain teaser. We might probably set a few steps/questions/issues and address each. 1st issue How exactly did you calculate that? I am sure that you know that "30 + 30" is "60" and "90 + 30" is "120" so the total should be "60 + 120" so "180". And "180 / 4 = 45" Once we get this 1st issue straigt, we might continue. Actually, there won't be any continuation needed if you admit calculating mistake. But let's see

You could use "Order: Topic Started" at the bottom of the forum section. This way you could see the latest topics at the top, no matter in which topics the latest comments were made.
  5. PM spammers are banned after they spam. You won't have to ban them then. But what about future/unknown spammers? Imagine that each day about 50 new members are registered and next week 1 spammer will register. I have no idea what user name or IP he/she will use and only after he/she sends out spam, only then I can be sure that he/she is a spammer and ban him/her then.
  6. JAY10 and Seiai, pls write that you are younger than 13 years just to be sure that it's not a joke. Seiai, look at my short comments in spoiler below. First, give some time to study weighted average, my and Martini's post above and then write if it is more fair to give each speed the same importance (as you say) or to give more importance to speed at which you travel for longer time (as we say) when calculating average. JAY10, I see your point. The question is do you see ours? In particular, pls address Martini's examples and then we could move further. Correct me if I am wrong: YOU say: Average speed is when you add all speeds and divide them by how many different speeds there are. I say: Average speed is when you add all speeds, give them their importance/weight and then divide them by how many different speeds there are. So I say that when you travel one speed for majority of time then the average speed should be closer to that speed since we went that speed longer (and not just simply fifty-fifty). Which approach seems more fair? First think about posted above and then give me solutions for 2 tasks below: I have 2 apples, my friend has 2 apples and you have 4 apples. What is the average number of apples that one has? How do you calculate it? I travel at 30 kmh for 20 minutes, then I travel at 30 kmh for another 20 minutes, then I travel 90 kmh for another 20 minutes and then I travel at 30 kmh for another 20 minutes, What is the average speed? How do you calculate it?

Welcome to the Den, Tmaxman96. Let me direct your attention to rules of this forum (see "Important: READ BEFORE POSTING" above). Especially, the part about doing a quick search before you post old puzzles like this one - it is already part of this site. Actually, it is one of my favorites and the very first of logic puzzles. It also has many variations already posted. And giving away the answer after a few guys give the riddle a shot is better as well. Thread locked.
  8. Your signature is OK - your picture is not big as per the extended rules. I just wanted to set some clear rules (especially for newbies). Some signatures were quite distracting and it's better to start with 1 or 2 lines of simple text.
  9. There is a lot of word riddles submitted to "New Puzzzles" each week. Their amount and popularity might be a good reason to create a new subforum for them. Split "New Puzzles" (renamed to "New Puzzles & Riddles") into "New Logic/Math Puzzles" and "New Word Riddles". Pros: 1. easier to distinguish between the 2 types - if you prefer 1 type over another you won't have to sift through all of them 2. hopefully more classic logic puzzles will be posted Cons: 1. misplaced riddles/puzzles (although I think it is clear to distinguish word riddle and math/other puzzle) 2. new members might be discouraged to post if they know not where and if their threads are moved 3. more moderating Let me know your thoughts and other pros/cons.
  10. I have made a few other visible changes: 1. the latest puzzle gets advertising on forum index page - check "Brain Teasers Forum latest news:" at the top 2. requirement for unique and descriptive title added into rules - hopefully no more riddles will be titled just "WAI" 3. signature requirements were added in rules of each forum and registration rules as well
  11. I advise to study weighted average and give importance (weight) to time of each part of travel (instead of distance). I think you don't agree that total average speed is total distance divided by total time. So you don't agree that if you travel 60 km in 80 minutes you will have average speed of 45 kmh (no matter if you speed up, slow down, stop etc.). If you went to a pub 2 km away and the first km you travel by car in 1 minute and the second km you step out of the car and walk for 1 hour (you enjoy the nature). 1km = driven for 1 minute ... speed = 60 kmh 1km = walked for 1 hour ... speed = 1 kmh You spend the whole hour walking and drive the car just 1 minute. Do you really want to give both parts the same weight? Do you think that the total average speed is 30.5 kmh? Wouldn't it be fair to give more importance to the speed that you go for 1 whole hour and give less importance to the speed that you go just 1 short minute? Think about it
  12. JAY10, maybe I could help. In your example, you traveled 60 km in 80 minutes. And that is not 60 km in 60 minutes (60 kmh). I am admin and Martini is moderator of this forum. Calling someone "clown" and messing up basic math is not a great start but I'm sure you will enjoy some other brain teasers (perhaps word riddles by Shakeepuddn).
  13. melolontamelolonta, I have edited "PM Flood Control" to 1 minute. Even psycho bunnies can wait that long Looking forward to next spammer.
  14. PM mass spamming = humans are registering to satisfy the reCAPTCHA requirements and then activating a "bot" to send hundreds of SPAM messages via the PM system within several minutes (that happened twice lately - pinupka and mignulikz) There is one more way which I used earlier - I decreased "Max. Number users allowed to mass PM" to 3. These are the best ways to decrease future PM mass spamming.
  15. not by default ... double posts should not be an issue if you press the button just once
  16. Due to recent PM mass spamming, new patch was implemented to the forum and I have set up PM flood control to 5 minutes. So you can send the next PM after 5 minutes. However, I could decrease it to 3 minutes if you would accept the higher risk of PM spamming. Itachi-san, I have disabled this PM flood control for VIPs (not possible for regular ranks yet).

kpnuts, you obviously did not use the 2 days out of BD that I gave you to read the rules and learn to search. Suspension for 7 days is the last chance to practice search and stay in BD. Thread locked.

Yes, this thread has the most replies at the moment. You can sort topics in each forum by replies at the bottom. If I notice that this thread is abused to increase post count then corrective measures will be taken. Enjoy the game

cjstone314, you aren't a newbie anymore. You should know the rules very well by now. Always do a quick search before you post a puzzle that you have not created - especially for oldies like this one. Thread locked.

kpnuts, at least 3 out of 5 riddles you posted are already part of this site You probably need some time to study the rules so I gladly give you 2 days out. Thread locked.
