0 Guest
Lust? I'm thinking of Steinback's descriptions of how sex is a thing hidden and taboo, and how that allowed Cathy to take advantage of it. Sex definitely fits the "bring together" and "cardinal sin" parts. Well, maybe not the "cardinal" part - I don't know what that means (though I've heard the phrase a lot) =P

Though the riddle might be a little complicated, the answer is not.

0 Guest
Time capsule? Message in a bottle? Diary? Secret? Reunion? Just wiki'd cardinal sin and saw that it's just another name for the 7 Deadly ones. I think the one that's most likely to fit the riddle is pride, considering the verse with "precious gift." Maybe inspiration? It can be quite simple and deceptively "everywhere," because you can be inspired by anything.

Some of your thoughts are definitely on the right track. This isn't however a POW or anything like that. The first part of your guess has something to do with it. Question
Guest
Bury in sand, close behind doors
If it need be, get on all fours
The precious gift is yours alone
Very much like a dog and bone
Bring together, it's what it's for
Everyone knows it, no less no more
Though quite simple, it's everywhere
With this and that, 'tween here and there
Out there somewhere, it has to be
Open your eyes, what do you see
If nothing then, be on your way
Until it’s found, by you one day
Pay attention and listen here
The answer sought should be quite clear
All who know it remember when
Looking was like a cardinal sin
