Probably cause spent too long at happy hour.ski lift?Hmm, I can't remember being on one of those contraptions so I'm not sure how well it would fit the riddle. But it's not what I had in mind. the law?Not the law, and that's sort of close to the title's exclusion of "I'm not Monopoly jail".

0 plasmid
a ball and chainNot what I've got in mind, and I'm not sure how that would fit with the "bucktoothed guard" or "I've got in board" clues. A computer firewallAlso not what I've got in mind, I'm not sure how this one would fit with "dumbbell" or "bucktoothed". This doesn't feel right, But I'll answer anyway, My thoughts come to light, A BAR seems okay. Not what I'm going for either, with the bucktooth and board clues. 0 plasmid
You're entering a parking ramp?A pretty good answer, the only big clue I can't really see it fitting with is bucktoothed. And there's a more subtle clue with "tougher jams I've gotten through" just sort of hanging there as if it were meant to refer to something. Yeah I was thinking maybe the guy taking your money at the gate, but thats not a key...so..maybe for bucktoothed gaurd..could refer to one of those lucky-rabbit foot key chains...ummmm, maybe a gamblers addiction? I can explain, if you like...That is a pretty good answer that I hadn't thought of. How would it fit with the "card" clue in the 10th line? Ah yes..the buck-toothed guard being the spikes to pop your tires if you drive right thru without paying... makes perfect sense..Nice job PG!a toll booth? That does make the toll both answer seem better, but a buck tooth is a single or pair of large protuberant upper front teeth, which wouldn't describe a row of equally sized spikes. Unless maybe I were talking about a bunch of bucktoothed guards. But I'm not. Edited June 6, 2009 by plasmid

0 plasmid
you're an elevator, elevator door, or stuck in one?Being stuck inside of one that's not responding to you would give a neat meaning to needing a turn of fate to get out. I'm not sure how it would be bucktoothed, though.
Question
plasmid
I'm a dumbbell you can't lift
So you won't get the best of me
You're my captive, catch my drift?
A bucktoothed guard, I'll hold your key
I've got in board, but there's no doubt
I've certainly not been subdued
Fighting me won't get you out
'cause tougher jams I've gotten through
What you need's a turn of fate
Or card: get out of jail free
If you want to cross my gate
And once again the blue sky see
