there are

fates, the one that spins the thread of life, the one that measures its length, and the one that clips it when it has completed its part of the design. If not death, then maybe the sister that determines lifespan/

There is this very rich man who has two sons.

He will give the inheritance to the man's horse that finished last in a race.

The first day of the race the men went as slow as they could.

When they got to the hotel, they told the innkeeper their problem.

The next day they went as fast as they could.

What did the innkeeper tell them.

This has been posted before in a very similar logic puzzle

Each of them wants their horse to go slower than the other's horse.

By trading horses, they now want their brother to lose the race (riding their horse) so they both go as fast as they can to try to beat their own horse...

that was less confusing in my head. Hope it helped.

I don't get it.

Oh, right, it's the HORSE that goes the slowest, not the man. Cool idea

. Anyway, back to TheLastOne's riddle. Sorry for continuing the Off Topic.

With the direction it seems to be going, I'm pretty sure this is false, but...

Love? "All's fair in love and war"

I'm surprised the answer wasn't Furies. The only things that are inescapable that come to mind besides Furies are death and taxes.

Maybe Hell? Er, Lucifer? Twisted branch of family tree could mean a fallen angel.

Crap, it's a branch off the twisted tree.

If it's Norse mythology, the tree would be Yggdrassil, but it's a family tree... maybe it's just Hades

i think this has already sort of been guessed, but is it

Erinyes? Or Hades? (since the Greek gods were all family, it sort of fits the "family tree" image...)
