Question

Having depleted our stock of heteronyms and contronyms, we're returning to theme words.

Today's theme is SCORE.

It's a noun, it's a verb and it has a plethora of meanings.

Which means thinking in many directions and contexts.

If you want to see how these work, or if you missed a previous episode, here they are.

Three words - I "Think"

Three words - II "Set"

Three words - III. "Bill"

Three words - IV - silent letters

Three words - V - heteronyms

Three words - Final Chapter contronyms

Three words - Encore performance wandering words

Three words - Associations

Three words - Association w/ rhyming words

Three words - 4x4 Square

And - as life so often does to us - the bar has been raised. ;)

A cream puff or two may be here, but you won't get them all in one try.

Most of all, have fun. B))

Done! Great job all!

Sure: Defs are from onelook.com.

Score:

verb: make small marks into the surface of (Example: "Score the clay before firing it")

Mark:

noun: a person who is gullible and easy to take advantage of - thus, Chump.

Score:

# noun: a resentment strong enough to justify retaliation (Example: "Settling a score") -> Gripe

Score:

noun: a set of twenty members (Example: "A score were sent out but only one returned") - "Roaring Twenties"

Score:

noun: grounds (Example: "He tried to blame the victim but his success on that score was doubtful")

OK? ;)

Though it's in onelook, I can't find the source/reference - can you site one?

set of twenty members (Example: "A score were sent out but only one returned") - "Roaring Twenties"

I think roaring works with twenties but roar does not work with twenty, - my opinion only

Pls note I am not complaining BN, I just find them over stretched and would like to reach the same conclusion if poss.

Try this, entry 9.

Well at the risk of becoming a marked man, or earmarked for trouble, and falling wide of the mark or not reaching the benchmark, and ending marred or scarred for life, I'll have to accept cos I found it elsewhere.

It looks like I may have to miss a go, you get an extra turn. I would like to find the usage of MARK used as CHUMP or similar.
