Question

Nast eases the glistening sheen,

By depicting the caesarists as the a**.

They wore no wigs, as there senses were keen,

Aware of the new pachoderm that attempts to pass.

The bigger the better, they seem lost

Collectors who see things centrally

No matter the cost,

There must social and economic equallity

No limit in sight

For it seems the jackass can

Take and take with none to fight

To feed the terrible leviathan

it is so political. But the answer...the House/ The senate? Would you mind answering a question for me? Are you a republican or libertarian? What is the elephant in the room that no one is paying attention to?

Independant with conservative bent

The elephant is being paid attention to.

The clue is by who?

Some ideas:

Nast eases the glistening sheen,

By depicting the caesarists as the a**.

Thomas Nast drew the Democrats or caesarists as a donkey or a** and the Republicans as an elephant in the late 19-th century.

They wore no wigs, as there senses were keen,

Aware of the new pachoderm that attempts to pass.

The pachoderm is the elephant that is the Republicans, the Democrats is aware of whatever they are trying to do.

The bigger the better, they seem lost

Collectors who see things centrally

No matter the cost,

There must social and economic equallity

The United States is just that, states, but the states are governed by the central government who make decisions for the better (or worse) of the entire nation.

I'm still thinking about the Health reform here...

No limit in sight

For it seems the jackass can

Take and take with none to fight

To feed the terrible leviathan

The Republicans are unjustly taking something from someone to keep the american wheels turning

Or, the Jackass is not the previous a**...

Are you suggesting that the wars fought by the US is solely to bring the neccecery income to run the United States? And that this is by the hand of Republicans?

or

Maybe that The Republicans are taxing the American people too much as opposed to the Democrats, this doesn't fit though, the Republicans have a history of lower taxes than the Democrats. (At least recently...)

or

With the Leviathan and verse nr. 2 spinning in my head, I keep thinking about the separation of powers and wonders if it is essential...

(mind you, I'm from Norway and American politics is not what you would call my specialty... :P I'm probably missing something.)

Very good research you are absolutely correct so who or what am I specifically talking about

They wore no wigs, as there senses were keen,

Aware of the new pachoderm that attempts to pass.

The pachoderm is the elephant that is the Republicans, the Democrats is aware of whatever they are trying to do.

You are correct here also but who or what am I describing, pay attention to the wigs reference

The bigger the better, they seem lost

Collectors who see things centrally

No matter the cost,

There must social and economic equallity

The United States is just that, states, but the states are governed by the central government who make decisions for the better (or worse) of the entire nation.

I'm still thinking about the Health reform here...

You are off here because it is tied to the previous two, who or what at least in the opinion of some hold these views

No limit in sight

For it seems the jackass can

Take and take with none to fight

To feed the terrible leviathan

The Republicans are unjustly taking something from someone to keep the american wheels turning

Or, the Jackass is not the previous a**...

A reference back to the first, and again who or what is being describe that may be described this way by some.

All the verse describe the same thing the first two verse specifically define the thing, the final two verses could be held as an opinion of this same thing.

I have to give you credit for finding as much as you did. The first two verse provide the answer, the second two verse are commentary on the answer. But all describe one single answer. I hope that makes sense. Great job! But I need a specific answer.

The first is that the reference to "wigs" could be to the defunct "whig" party which was part of the two-party system that has defined American politics since its founding. Democrats-Whigs, then Democrats-Republicans.

The other is to simply wigs as in those worn by the founding fathers whose images are depicted on our coinage - the reference to "glistening sheen", and the possible biblical reference to the image of "caesar" on the state coin, and later "collectors".. The US Mint didn't start putting person images on coinage until the early 20th century when the Federal Reserve System was also adopted. So this could be a reference to the central banking system or Federal Reserve, but that seems like a more remote option given the strong political party references in the first two clues. My guess is the Two-party system

if it's just one, then the focus looks to be more on the Democratic Party/DNC, so I'll go with that. I thought that was already guessed though.

Looking for one thing not two. Man you are very close

On the right track and looking for just one thing

The answer specifically was the Democratic Party.

Nast eases the glistening sheen,

By depicting the caesarists as the a**.

As Roy Thore pointed out it was Thomas Nast the drew the Democrats as a Jackass, he did so because he thought of the Democratic party led by then President Andrew Jackson as a dictatorship or caesarist.

They wore no wigs, as there senses were keen,

Aware of the new pachoderm that attempts to pass.

You were correct in my reference to the wig as being the decenting party against the Democrats at the time, but they were not the predecessors of the Republicans. The Repulicans came later and the Democrats have ever since been keenly aware of there presence, hence the reference to the pacodern. First they were adversaries of the Whig party, then the new upstart Republican party which came later and attempted to pass them.

The bigger the better, they seem lost

Collectors who see things centrally

No matter the cost,

There must social and economic equallity

This is I think fair commentary on the current beliefs of the Democratic party who believe in bigger government roles in many social and economic areas of our lives

No limit in sight

For it seems the jackass can

Take and take with none to fight

To feed the terrible leviathan

This too is fair commentary on the current Democratic Party belief system in taking from one to give to another, and creating in the middle a leviathan, a huge beast that intrudes in our lives. The more they spend and tax the larger the beast becomes. The Leviathan central character in the political philosophy of Thomas Hobbes. Good reading and very pertinent to things happening now.

All great guesses and Congrats to simmy8

if it's just one, then the focus looks to be more on the Democratic Party/DNC, so I'll go with that. I thought that was already guessed though.

Simmy8 solved it
