0 Prof. Templeton
fit? Nope. Sorry. My first can be a type of seizure=atonic My second can be a symbol of leisure=scale My whole is used to follow a measure =diatonic scale= do, ra, me, fa......?? How about this... No, but again, this is in the ballpark. All I can think of when combining them is golf - iron swing - My whole may look a bit absurd, - if like me it's not exactly the epitome of coordination But through me droning composition is heard. - the sound of contact with hopefully the ball or maybe the ground Did you miss me? - yes, often. My swing usually looks good, its the path of the ball after that is absurd. No, nothing to do with Golf. The title "Not a Simple Interval" alludes to something musical, that some of you have picked up on. But if not Simple then its Compound, which relates to the form of the answer. A compound word, like hilltop or showdown or thunderclap.

0 Prof. Templeton
Well done. DudleyDude has solved this riddle with My first part is Bag When in the sky, my first may be above you or below. Traveling by plane your bag my be stowed above you or below in cargo. Safe, to say you arrived at it apropos, If you get to the bag in good time your declared "Safe". Or halted your slide there. It awaits a blow. You may have to slide into the base or bag. You hit a punching bag or heavy bag. Should a woman have one, she’ll display with pride, A woman's bag or purse is carried prominently. But two on show would be cause to hide, Two bags under your eyes would be cause for concealer. And to be labeled such would dishonor the bride. To call her a "bag" would imply she was ugly. My second part is Pipe My second is a means to convey Pipes can convey liquids or gases. Often the subject of rigorous survey. Laying out pipes takes planning. When down, it keeps the noisome at bay. "Pipe Down" or keep quiet. Sometimes it must be preceded by fire, The burning at the end of a smoke pipe. To quench a thirst, a burning desire. I had meant the nicotine in tabacco, but water pipes putting out flames works too. It could put an edge on your formal attire. Pipe or piping is the trim on some clothes. My whole is Bagpipe My whole may look a bit absurd, Bagpipes are a bit funny looking. But through me droning composition is heard. Composition is the music and a drone is the pipe or pipes that lay on the shoulder of a bagpipe player.

Question
Prof. Templeton
When in the sky, my first may be above you or below.
Safe, to say you arrived at it apropos,
Or halted your slide there. It awaits a blow.
Should a woman have one, she’ll display with pride,
But two on show would be cause to hide,
And to be labeled such would dishonor the bride.
My second is a means to convey
Often the subject of rigorous survey.
When down, it keeps the noisome at bay.
Sometimes it must be preceded by fire,
To quench a thirst, a burning desire.
It could put an edge on your formal attire.
My whole may look a bit absurd,
But through me droning composition is heard.
Did you miss me?
