Well, you just confirmed that these numbers are decimal numbers. The OP dosn't just talk about the message. It also provides a particular interpretation of the message. Should we not assume that the interpretation of the message is correct and think of possible different interpretations? That is what I was trying to find out when I asked my previous question about the narrative containing hidden clues. Is the puzzle about finding a mystery operation based on the interpretation given in the OP or is it about interpreting the message and figuring out how to respond to 48 beeps followed by 73 beeps?

This sounds like homework. There is a forum on this site that helps with homework Homework Help. If this is homework, please post your question there.

    never mind...

Wow! Good job, Kornrade, but that's one crazy solution! My head is still spinning. Bushindo, is this the solution you had in mind? EDIT: added some more thoughts

It was probably more luck than anything else. From several examples I noticed that the operation may create a result that's greater, in between or smaller than the operands. That made me thinking of some sort of binary nature of the operation (similar to binary OR, AND or XOR). So, for a while, I've been using the binary representation of the numbers trying unsuccessfuly to figure out the binary operation that would produce these results. That made me think that some other numerical system may be involved. So, I just decided to try the base 3 system. Once I converted the numbers to base 3 it became quite obvious what the operation does.

I agree. As always, you are correct! Good one, Bushindo!

No rules. Random answerer is purely random. You cannot predict his answers, so they are useless. The purpose of the strategy is to avoid random answerers and zero-in on the truth tellers or liars to get definitive answers.

Maybe I'm not understanding something, but how can you have any certainty after any number of questions when you're dealing with random answerers? If their answers are completely random then there is a possibility that for x number of questions they will answer exactly the same as a truth teller (or a liar) would, which makes it impossible to distinguish them.

So now the "YES" fellow would say yes; The "NO" guy would say no, And the honest man would say it...... QUITE EASY HUH!! LOVE IT!! You might as well ask today's date, but the OP clearly states that the questions must be Yes/No questions.
