Participating in which I tell. -- Story? but you said one syllable, so 'play', maybe, or 'game'. An emotionally uncertain primary -- if we're talking colors, red,blue or yellow; blue would have to be the closest one I can think of.. and now coming back down as well. -- 'roll', 'sink', 'drop', 'low'.. It was not in a spoiler but---"Put up another tonight which is 100% play on words. Clues like the "instead you might say" in this riddle referring to the different pronunciation of the railroad town "Reading" (homophones).
