Question

Extra! Extra!

Read all about it!

In a great little paper written to tout it!

A ruler to measure the rule by the rules!

Father and friends felt like the fools!

Extra! Extra!

No pennies for pounds,

No arms tied to arms, the body is found!

Father and friends passed through a gate,

No one to stop them; all can relate!

Extra! Extra!

Read it and say

The common among us binds us today.

Papa is angry, he didn’t like rules

That cornered his house, or qualified fools!

Extra! Extra!

Paper sublime!

Sealed with a seal in a meadow in time.

Another good one Shakee. I think I've got it, but I won't spoil it just yet...

The first thing that popped into my mind was the 95 Theses...

Hmmm... first instinct: more research...

Should I start researching Hammurabi first, or Gudea of Lagash?

Granted knowing my gut, neither is anywhere close!

Is this the right forum for this anymore, I think the new puzzles forum was split. This should probably go in New Word Puzzles

For some reason I'm thinking Ender

On second thought...

More modern rulers might be the answer:

Research list: John Adams

Foundation of Parliament...

Of course, I don't think Shakee is from the US (just guessing) so again, I'm probably way off.

These are very good.

So that's where all the WAIs went.

I'd say Magna Carta

So that's where all the WAIs went.

I'd say Magna Carta

Gentry and clergy all were atwitter,

For Jack's foolishness had made them all bitter.

Suspicions of murder, defeats in the field,

"We'll take this no more! This tyrant must yield!"

Whispers in back rooms about his excess,

"Because of his folly, we're all taxed to death!"

Anger boiled over, murmurs grew to a shout:

"He'll bend to our will! We'll sort him out!"

So they marched down on London, where the gates opened wide,

It seemed the whole country had come to their side,

They agreed to a meeting in a grassy wetland,

Where they issued the King the following demand:

"You're not infallible, not without flaw,

Why should you not obey rule of law?

You are no God, no power divine,

You're just like us. We demand that you sign!"

And there in that swamp called Runnymede,

John placed his seal, confirming the deed.

And to this Great Charter, many would say,

We owe a great debt to this very day.
