The door was no opdionary door, it was to a chimley. The murder climed through the dorr and up the chimley onto the roof where he excaped

he climbed up the chimney!

he used the spaghetti sauce to make it look like blood.

Then he started a fire so that police will come and open the door.

While the coroner takes the body out, he'll escape!

I don't disagree with peace out I think that could be the answer I believe the spaghetti and the ash was to throw people off I disagree with strykr because if the FBI guy saw him leaving he wouldn't stand there saying " he's a genius" he would run after him

EDIT: that, and why would the guy sneak into someones house to shove spaghetti on some dude for no reason.

These are good riddles for yes-no responses. As is, vague, not clearly stated with enough specifics. I'm assuming there is only one way to get into and out of the room . . . the door, correct? Considering the Police had to force it open and so was locked from the inside, don't you mean "how was the murderer able to bolt the door from the outside after leaving?" Otherwise, there is no reason why he couldn't have just walked out.

What kind of bolt . . . metal latch? Knob turn? Drop bar?

Is the ash on the inside or outside of the doorway?

Culprit wedges lit cigarette under the bolt to prop it up...when it burned all the way bolt comes down...thus creating the bolted door scenario

the door was bolted from the inside with a metal bolt which slid across and there were no other exits OR entrances or windows and the person is dead

If there was a piece of string on the door, the murderer could have:

Tie string to something, with cigarette between bolt and lock, when the cigarette burns away, the something pulls the bolt into the lock.

Edit: Could the spaghetti be used as string?

this is a hard one

well what if its really simple...

spaghetti is just to throw us off... the ingenios way to escape was to shoot himself... and the ash was from something that automatically shot a gun... so there was no other murderer! he escaped by dying.

Hmmm. Here is a thought...

The pasta was tied to the trigger of the gun and was set off when the police broke down the door. The person "escaped" justice by having the police commit the murder.

one possible way:

If more than three shots fired and cigarette involved, cigarette filter removed and bullet implanted and lodged at end of bolt. Cigarette burns down, fires bullet, blast shoots bolt shut.

the perpetrator tied the victim up (raped her) shot her through the head thrice. when he exited he tied a piece of string around the bolt, when he closed the door e tugged on the string, tightining it, then he burnt it leaving only a piece of ash...
