The 1st person took a pear off the tree, leaving nine. The 2nd through ninth people all stole the pear from the person who had it before them, still leaving 9 on the tree. 0 Guest
I like starfish's idea... But I was also thinking there are pears on the ground too.... maybe 9 of the ten picked up ripe pears that had recently fallen.

0 andromeda
There is a person called Each Nice thinking! Agree cause There are ten pears on a tree. 10 people come along. Each takes 1 pear, and leaves nine on the tree, how is this possible? Each is written with a capital E and 'how' in the next line wasn't! 0 peace*out
Usually I hear the riddle, There are 10 pears (or fruit) in a bowl. 10 people each take one, but one is still in the bowl. How can this be??
0 peace*out
because one persons piece of fruit is in the bowl. I like the 'each' better though...
0 Guest
I didnt pick up on that....the word each came after a full stop, so a capital letter was necessary...the word how came after a comma so a capital letter wasnt necessary... 0 peace*out
If you turn the period (.) into a semi-colon (, then you dont need the captol letter!!
0 Faizaan
i was thinking that maybe each person could take a pear and sit in in the tree to eat it. considering no one finishes by the time the last pear is taken each person would have taken one pear and left 9 in the tree. i said nine because it does not say exactly nine. ya by the way, congrats violent pedestrian... i would have never thought.
