Question

Your friend Bob has a rather eccentric grandfather who lives in a secluded cabin out in the woods. His grandfather is very particular about what he eats each day, and he has a European maid named Torrja who stops by once a day to tidy up and deliver his groceries. On Monday she brings him a basket full of figs, apples, and carrots, which he gladly accepts and eats. On Tuesday, she brings him another basket with grapes, bananas, and dates, which he thanks her for and then eats. On Wednesday, Maid Torrja is sick and asks Bob to bring groceries to his grandfather. Bob knows that his grandfather will not eat the same combination of foods that he has had in the previous two days, so he brings his grandfather a basket full of bananas, carrots, and dates, which angers his grandfather greatly and he refuses to eat. Bob is now asking you for help. It is still Wednesday and his grandfather must eat. What do you suggest to Bob that he bring to his grandfather, and why?

Apples, Carrots and somthing bgining with E (Eggplant maybe).

Reason:

Using the musical notes, A,B,C,D,E,F and G, we can see a pattern.

Day 1:

Figs, Apples, Carrots

F, g, A, b, C, d

(Every second letter is used)

Day 2:

Grapes, Bananas, Dates

G, a, B, c, D, e

Day 1, FgAbC

Day 2, GaBcD

Therefore:

Day 3, AbCdE

(Apple, Carrot, E...)

You are very close! However, your day 3 answer is does not fit in with the day 1 and day 2 answers exactly. The reason behind this may require some outside knowledge, though you should be able to figure it out since you know the theme already.

This may confuse you even more but...Torrja is an odd name, isn't it?

Looking back at the original riddle, I see that there is no obvious reason why this would be incorrect, except if you have figured out the hint, so let me amend your answer to the original statement and add that Bob has also tried to give him apples, carrots, and eggplants, which was not accepted. Also, the order of the days does not matter, that is, what the grandfather will accept today does not depend on what he ate yesterday, other than the fact that he will not eat the same thing again.

This should narrow it down to one particular answer.

Clever...looks like ppl are going around in circles...maybe they should cut off some segments of those circles...;P

Aren't you clever, too - I love how you phrased your hint!

Cherries, of course!

Spoiler for plus some :

eggplant and grapes

But he ate

grapes on Tuesday and you can't repeat cause he won't eat it!

EDIT: Sorry, I didn't read the riddle carefully, that it's about a combination and not repetition!

Nice work CL! :)

The answer is honey, cherry & eel. The first day he eats figs, apples & carrots which start from FAC. THEN HE EATS Grapes, banana & dates which start from GBD. So next day he will eat something starting from HCE
