4. "x" is def hug and "loser" probably means 0 rather than -1

and i think that dx at the end has to be right, it is needed to make the statement correct

also, has anyone given an answer for 3 that works?

Thanks for the rating! I was wondering how to get those... :)

No, I'm pretty sure X is hug...the cross represents crossing your arms when you hug someone, and the O represents puckering your lips for a kiss...

Well, the all-knowing Wikipedia says so, anyways. ;P

Ps do you cross your arms when you hug or wrap your arms around them??

Some more here and much more than half agree on yahoo answers

So are you pretty sure or rethinking  XX OO @-->-->--- meant to be a rose but looks like a carnation

it's a US/European difference - either that or I am wrong - that would be a first, Answerbag agrees ha ha.. Also the * = kiss and () represents arms = hugs

Now that's confused it all.

Are we saying gods is Deus of dei for this puzzle>

Well, I bow to the wisdom of Wikipedia on the hugs and kisses thing, and ye all mighty says that hugs is X and kisses is O...;P

So here's what needs to be done:

3. figure out what "support proposal" is

4. put it all together (and figure out the answer)

Almost there!

- but not when it disagrees with you :)

Pi pi American pi

Base four ?????

As in base support and put fourth

So here's what I think it is, in its entirety:

integral from -pi to 0 of sin(x/2) dx = 0

My integrals and derivatives are a little rusty, but I'm fairly certain of that answer.

Base four ?????

Perhaps "support proposal" is taken as one item, as if you support the proposal, you are for it, so the whole phrase should be:

natural log of (e to the fourth) = 4

If both this and my post for question 4 are correct, then I think we've finally solved this one. Great teamwork and great puzzle, regardless! B))

Double check your math. I believe that if that is the correct expression the answer should be -2

No, not quite...it's one word (hint: think parliamentary procedure...)
Proposal - part/phase I

Support p - part/phase II

best I can do - up to you guys, enjoyed the ride with you all

not sure if this has been guessed...

support proposal= won (like it passed b/c it had support) OR

= one (as in unity- unanimous). that would make it natural log of (e^1)= 1.

I really like this riddle- I first saw it when just posted, took one look, and gave up! :o;)

I only got this (maybe?) from reading otr ppl's responses

Lol, well, there's a lesson in that...it's like the Case of the Clapham Cook (Agatha Christie). ;P

Seeing as how everyone is trying so hard and I want you guys to succeed, here are some hints that should get you there:

I try to be pretty consistent w/ my grammar, so since "support proposal" is a verb/action, the answer should also be a verb.

So in a parliamentary body, someone makes a proposal, and then someone else supports the proposal...there's another word for that and that is what I'm looking for.

Finally, if you look at the other answers, you should notice a pattern...;P

Would support proposal be to second it? As in to raise to the second power?

If that's the case, the answer is ln(e^2) = 2.

Or maybe ln(2*e), which goes nowhere.

Et c'est fini!

Good job everyone. Here is a summary of the solutions:

1. cos(π/4) = √2/2

2. √8 = 2√2

3. ln(e^2) = 2

4. ∫sin(x/2)dx from -π to 0 = -2cos(x/2) from -π to 0 = -2(cos(0)-cos(-π/2)) = -2(0-(-1)) = -2

Nice work and thanks for the interest. There may be a sequel... ;)
