0 Guest
I think they are called blotters - you know, that half sircle piece for ink drying . It moves like that and the sewers need ( cleaning ) Edited May 28, 2008 by Dgaduin

0 Guest
what about a ballpoint pen? back and forth back and forth back and forth i go (the ball rolls along the paper) but I'll keep still quite a long time if you truly wish it so (put the pen down, it stops) the sewer's need is what I need so I can properly flow (sewers are gravity-fed, like ballpoint pens) back and forth back and forth back and forth I go

That's sucking - right Does he work on a farm - sewing seed, seasonal work and the rest of time at home I guess orSomething to do with sewing equipment, seeds or cloth A needle, thread or a swiveling piece of equipment on a seeding machine - not familiar with farm machines

0 Guest
OK, if it's sewer as in the drains, not sewer as in needle and thread... I'll guess..A toilet cistern float.
0 itachi-san
OK, if it's sewer as in the drains, not sewer as in needle and thread... I'll guess..A toilet cistern float. Careful now, I never stated which meanings they represent for this particular riddle. That's about the only hint I can think of so I've been saving it. I like your answer, but I don't see how it fits with the stanza you mentioned.

0 Guest
an arguement. You have to spew crap back and forth at one another in order to keep it going!
0 Guest
Well, my first thought was an old-fashioned metronome, with the needle that goes back and forth until you stop it....but if you take sewer in it's non-person-who-sews meaning, then I'm stumped for a while longer... 0 itachi-san
Well, my first thought was an old-fashioned metronome, with the needle that goes back and forth until you stop it....but if you take sewer in it's non-person-who-sews meaning, then I'm stumped for a while longer... This is a good answer, similar to others. It falls a little short just like them though: metronome, scale, seismograph, polygraph, record player, etc... All of these objects are great guesses and do indeed have needles (not that that is a necessity for the answer) but they fall short with for the phrase "back and forth" These objects do not go back and forth. A part of them (the needle part) goes back and forth yes, but a "record player" or a "metronome" does not go back and forth (for any typical use)
0 Guest
Could you be referring to the 3rd definition of the word sewer? I know most people are unaware of it and I can't imagine how that would work but it's out there.
