"governed breath" would indicate brass/woodwind instruments (as opposed to percussion, strings, synthesizer, etc.) Angels' herald and faith in men imperiled both lend to bugle/trumpets. Trumpets also work in jazz (aka poetic kin and sin).

0 Guest
Nice job guys. Nobody exactly has it, but some are close. I was going to solve here, but then realized it's only mid-Saturday and it's called "weekend riddle" afterall, so the solution will come Monday. 0 Guest
Good job LIS. From lines one and two, one can infer it's something spoken. Spoken music - "Song."

Passion wreathed in governed breath
Storied life and love and death
I burst forth in angels’ herald,
Inspire faith in men imperiled
I’m greater than a sum of parts
and carry on with stops and starts
but when the parts at last subside
I’m nothing more than math applied
I’m often raised with poetic kin
And some might say I trigger sin
But I’m revered the world around
Whether silly, brash, or most profound
