0 itachi-san
is it Gollum/Smeagol from LOTR? I always think of him when riddles come up. This is the closest guess so far. Try to pick out the key words located all over the riddle and they will guide you

0 itachi-san
OK, I didn't mean it had to do with LOTR or The Hobbit or The Silmirinian (in other words not Tolkien related), just that that particular guess was close in another way, which I'll keep to myself for now

0 itachi-san
I'll add a few more lines: You come from a distant land So you will not perceive my plan Stealing from me will be your end But before you, I'll devour your friend In this game I set the first trap My advantage is lost when I take a nap No one will help when nobody's to blame I still keep playing, though never the same To win my game you must use deception That may involve my poor perception My strength and will are just too much To be conquered by the average touch Now with the advantage, use my herd For my vision is worse than blurred Though I still possess a sagacious mind On their backs there will be nothing to find If successful, hold no preconception That hubris will not lead to interception By an even greater power than mine Your new troubles will be divine Edit: typo Edited May 3, 2008 by itachi-san

0 itachi-san
The Giant from Jack and the Beanstalk Fee, fi, fo, fum, I smell the blood of an English man, Be he alive, or be he dead, I'll grind his bones to make my bread. Very good guess, but I don't it satisfies all the lines.
0 Guest
Sorry to not put this in a spoiler. My computer won't let me. But my guess would be cyclops.

0 itachi-san
Sorry to not put this in a spoiler. My computer won't let me. my guess would be cyclops. Nice one You come from a distant land - Odysseus sailed to Cyclops' island So you will not perceive my plan - They try to befriend him, but the Cyclops is secretly mad at them for eating his food Stealing from me will be your end - Odysseus and his men feasted on the Cyclops' food while he was out But before you, I'll devour your friend - This enrages the Cyclops and he eats some of Odysseus' friends In this game I set the first trap - The Cyclops starts the violence and treachery My advantage is lost when I take a nap - while he is sleeping Odysseus plots and they stab his eye No one will help when nobody's to blame - Odysseus calls himself 'Nobody' so that the Cyclops sounds like a fool when he asks for help from Nobody I still keep playing, though never the same - The Cyclops keeps his guard even after blinded though and will not let them escape To win my game you must use deception - in order to escape they had to trick him That may involve my poor perception - which would involve him being blind My strength and will are just too much - the Cyclops is too strong and patient a guard to get by with force To be conquered by the average touch - outwitting the Cyclops calls for a Hero like Odysseus Now with the advantage, use my herd - they use his sheep to escape For my vision is worse than blurred - blind is worse than blurred of course Though I still possess a sagacious mind - though blind, the Cyclops is still pretty wise and pats all the sheep to make sure his captives aren't hitching a ride out On their backs there will be nothing to find - he finds nothing on there backs, but the clever Odysseus and his men were clutching the bellies of the sheep If successful, hold no preconception - Even though he outwitted the Cyclops, Odysseus should have kept his mouth shut That hubris will not lead to interception - His famous act of hubris by yelling his real name at the Cyclops once they were safely away By an even greater power than mine - the Cyclops called on his father Poseiden to avenge him Your new troubles will be divine - Now Odysseus has to deal with one of the most powerful Gods
