In these two statements:

All those wearing blue or yellow ..

All those wearing yellow or orange ..

Does this not mean there will be a few that were brown but could also be wearing black?

3 Red Hats

4 Blue Hats

4 Yellow Hats

2 Orange Hats

2 Green Hats

2 Blue, 2 Yellow have red scarves

1 Orange, 1 green, 2 red have Yellow scarves

1 blue, 1 yellow have orange scarves.

Rest have Green Scarves

Shoes = 1/2 of people not wearing yellow or blue or orange that are wearing red or green.

So,

3 red hats, and 2 green hats are the only ones that go on from the hats.

Out of those 3, 2 of them have yellow.

Out of those 2 green hats, 1 has yellow.

The rest have Green Scarves.

Leaving a total of 2 that fit yellow or blue or orange and wearing red or green.

1/2 of 2 = 1 pair of shoes.

Total Shoes = 2

Quick edit, that is I am an idiot if shoes do not equal boots.

If boots are shoes, then 30 shoes, or 15 pais.

I would'nt have said so PN - but note the scarves can be curved but the ladies are in a straight line - not a mathematical 'line' B))

Any road up as they say in essex.

I have confirmed some of the information from PN cos he broke it down .. Look if you need clues

Note, general thory with these types of problems...

The best way to do these are to arrange the sentances first (make them into a line per sentance), I put them in one paragraph just to make it interesting/harder

If there are words for numbers change them to figures!

Accordingly fractions to decimal if it is harder than mental calculation!

3 Red Hats yes

4 Blue Hats yes

4 Yellow Hats yes

2 Orange Hats yes

2 Green Hats yes

2 Blue, 2 Yellow have red scarves yes

1 Orange, 1 green, 2 red have Yellow scarves yes

1 blue, 1 yellow have orange scarves. yes

Rest have Green Scarves yes, = which colours for clarity

Then allocate the boots, play dress up with friends if you like...

Those in shoes are those not in boots - think of them as essex girls! .........

the other clues......

All those wearing blue or yellow have brown boots.

All those wearing yellow or orange have black boots.

All those not wearing red or green have grey boots.

Half the remainder have pink boots and the rest have shoes...

How many have shoes or pairs of shoes or no. of shoes.... PN has the first part!

Boots and shoes are seperate footware, no catch!

I'm with PolishNorbi - 1 person with shoes, or 2 individual shoes.

Reasoning:

There is one person wearing a red hat and green scarf, and one person wearing a green hat and green scarf. That means that one of them has pink boots and one has shoes, so there are 2 shoes.

4 people have green scarfs..

Out of those 4, two have blue/yellow hats, thus leaving two for the split half and half for pink boots or shoes.

Quick Edit: Gray = Orange in drawing.

You are ok PN its me I left out a not so I loose a brownie point.

Top marks for beuatiful colours and presentation.

But the hats are so last season.

If you want to re consider then line

All those wearing blue or yellow have brown boots

should be

All those NOT wearing blue or yellow have brown boots

any way I'm the idiot

and I pinned a star on you too
