There is one line in each stanza that is simply last names:

Kent Summers Veight Nah Grayson Queen Dibny -These look to be all super heroes...specifically their "normal" names (Clark Kent, Scott Summers, Dick Grayson are the ones I recognize right away)

Bane Baltan Master Zim Belloq Bombe Bart -Belloq leads me to think Indiana Jones, but not sure about any of the others...maybe enemies? Because "Master" is the enemy of the Doctor, and Belloq is Jones' enemy...

Weikath Gates Kruspe Mars Linsk Freyberg Malmsteen -I can tell you for sure, these are all guitarists...specifically in the rock/metal genre

Cormon Dix Nesch Braque Manet Dowd Nolan -Manet leads me to think painters...but I'm not very adept on this subject to know any others...

Zod Karath Bilefroth Gunray Ming Zedd Kay -Maybe Star Wars characters? (Gunray and Karath for sure...or maybe just sci-fi characters)

King Sánchez Borlaug 'Bride Gyatso Balch Tum -No clue...

Riggs Benson Miller Tyler Hauk Ness Tubbs - I'm guessing these are all names of characters that are police officers in movies (Riggs = Leathal Weapon, Benson = Law and Order, Tubbs = Miami Vice...)

after Googling a few of the names to find commonalities:

First is definitely super heroes:
Clark Kent (Superman), Scott Summers (Cyclops), ???? Veight (????), Jo Nah (Ultra Boy), Dick Grayson (Nightwing), Oliver Queen (Green Arrow), Ralph Dibny (Elongated Man)

Still thinking villains for the second:

Bane (Batman), Baltan (????), Master (Dr. Who), Zim (Invader Zim), Belloq (Indiana Jones), Bombe (????), Bart (Simpsons maybe? some would call him "the bad guy"?)

Guitarists for the third (as you can tell from my avatar...this one was easy for me):

Weikath (Helloween), Gates (Avenged Sevenfold), Kruspe (Rammstein), Mars (Motley Crue), Linsk (Overkill), Freyberg (Naildown), Malmsteen (...Yngwie!!)

Fictional Police characters for the last:

Riggs (Leathal Weapon), Benson (Law and Order SVU), Miller (Barney Miller), Tyler (Life on Mars), Hauk (The Wire), Ness (Untouchables), Tubbs (Miami Vice)...

Still working on what that actually MEANS, and trying to fill in the other ones...I found that Gyatso is a Dalai Lama...

Taking the first letter of the band the guitarists play in gives the word HARMONY...that CAN'T be coincidence, especially since it's musical in nature...

The superheroes I have gives SC?UNGE...which seems CLOSE to a word, but I can't figure it out...

Don't see how that applies to the police characters or villians yet either...*hmmm*...

For the Superheroes, one of them has an alternative identity, and as to the one you don't know:

:) <-bloody

:o

You don't recognize Zod???!!!!

(I'm just kidding lol)

Taking the first letter of the superhero gives you SCOURGE (Nightwing is also known as Robin)...and Veight is Ozymandias (never heard of that one)...

So it seems that the names lead to a word that is RELATED to the names themselves (musicians -> HARMONY, superheroes -> SCOURGE)

I know Zod is superman, which is why I went with "sci-fi characters" in general...but still missing most of that one...

I think the second spells BUDDIES...and is related (opposite) to the fact that they are all enemies of someone (Batman, Ultraman-had to look that one up for sure, Doctor, Dib, Indiana, E????, Skinner)

...what's missing from 'Zod' (you actually said it in your post

;))? What similarity does he have with the Star Wars characters?

You're almost 1/7 of the way to the puzzle solution...I kid you not ;P.

Edit: Realized my original hint could be confusing.

Starting to get the pattern of these types of riddles. Ozymandias was a character from the awesome Watchmen comics, btw.

On mobile now, good job Pickett. From what I know, we need to go step by step on this. First the names, then the weird capitalization in the paragraphs as well as the bolded sentences.

First off, thanks to Family Guy for letting me recognize the name "Manet". That got me on the list of painters, and the rest is (art) history...

Fernand Cormon

Otto Dix

Rolf Nesch

Georges Braque

Edouard Manet

Robert Dowd

Sidney Nolan

Spells FORGERS.

The story so far:

SCOURGE

BUDDIES(?)

HARMONY

FORGERS

GROVELS

Notice anything? All seven letter words. Also, I think Y-san semi/hinted when she said that we are 1/7 done. 7 different paragraphs. Each paragraph is seven lines, each line of names is seven words (and using that as a springboard, EVERY LINE in a paragraph has seven words.) This has got to mean something.

I think the final 2 words are "monster" and "mobster"

Famous pacifists
Martin Luther King
Oscar Arias Sanchez
Norman Borlaug
Sean MacBride
Tenzin Gyatso
Emily Balch
Rigoberta Menchu Tum

TV/Movie Detectives
Martin Riggs
Olivia Benson
Barney Miller
Sam Tyler
Thomas Hauk
Eliot Ness
Ricardo Tubbs

Also, "buddies" is the right word for 2nd list. Baltan was the villain in something called Ultraman.

Each set has a line that is almost the same as a line from one of Shakespeare's Sonnets. For each line, the puzzle replaces the correct word with its antonym. Each missing (original) word is 7 letters long.

Eternal (But they truncated …)
Against (Proceed the stormy …)
Poverty (Although thou steal …)
Silence (As victors of …)
Fairest (I see descriptions…)
Meadows (Kissing with golden …)
Quickly (And his love…)

7 seems to be the key. Based on what we know, I'm assuming each clue type will produce 7 letter words. (in fact, I just now noticed that each line in this puzzle consists of 7 words each)

I also found some 7 letter words in there just from the clues:

The herder's little lads for bovine named -COWBOYS
The brand a gentleman hath wedded gained -HUSBAND

Give Godfather this esteem from your heart -RESPECT

Two metal discs are clashing thund'rous cry -CYMBALS

Remove a smell, and recall depths fallen -DESCENT??

Samantha doth to Darren twitch this feat -BEWITCH?

Seems a little too perfect to be coincidence...

EDIT: And another:

In orchestras their saw work doth prevail -VIOLINS

EDIT EDIT: Could this be what the line "With thyself at her solving crossword spree" means? These are cross-word style clues resulting in 7-letter words...If that's the case, then I'm guessing these are also clues as to what we need to do:

First: "But thy truncated summer shall not fade"???

Second: "Answers we offer Ven to Shakespeare's best"

Third: "With thyself at her solving crossword spree"

Fourth: "Bold model vin gris lengthwise sort apply"

Fifth: "Words differ til each letter list okay"

Sixth: "Discarding space like flattened rag on seat"

Seventh: "One minstrel Ian takes a cryptic leap"

Maybe we have to do one of those for each line in each stanza...although I don't see how the names would fit one of those...maybe "truncating" them to the first letter?

Alright...so going from my above post, I wanted to figure out the "random" capital letters. I first noticed that the only lines in each stanza with the strange capitalization are ones that are comma-separated "clues"...WITH THE EXCEPTION of the "badGe bad badgerS lack errant badgeR badE" line. In each of these lists, ONE of the clues is ALL LOWERCASE, while the other clues each have ONE capital letter. So I figured this was the "Words differ til each letter list okay". Going with that, I used the badger line as an example to basically start from a root word and build up one letter at a time to yet ANOTHER seven letter word related to the one word that doesn't have strange capitalization:

bad + E = badE

bade + G = badGe

badge + R = badgeR

badger + S = badgerS

With that, here are the ones I found:

First: breaTh weary = sigh...sigh + T = SIGHT (gLimpse see) + L = SLIGHT (feEble weight) + E = SLEIGHT (swindle)

Second: outer parT = case...case + T = CASTE (famiLy grade) + L = CASTLE (bridgeD fort) + D = CASTLED (swapped)

Third: ?????

Fourth: fill glUtton = sate...sate + U = SAUTE (oiL lightly fry) + L = SALUTE (commenD) + D = SALUTED (hailed)

Fifth: ??? (mouth recites could be "oral" or "orate" or something like that...)

Sixth: Scarves some = ties...ties + S = STIES (pig celLblocks) + L = STILES (fence scaFfolds) + F = STIFLES (smothers)

Seventh: brOoch needles = pins...pins + O = PIONS (liTtle mesons) + T = PISTON (poSts deep) + S = PISTONS (valves)

Whoever came up with this puzzle is sick...keeping all this straight is getting quite cumbersome!!

1) It consists of 7 groups of 7 lines.
2) There are 7 different mechanics to solve the lines, with each group having one of each mechanic.
a. Changed sonnet lines (solved)

i. Eternal, against, poverty, silence, fairest, meadows, quickly
b. Grouped names (solved)
i. Scourge, buddies, harmony, forgers, grovels, monsters, mobsters
c. Cryptic crossword style (mostly solved)
i. Cowboys, respect, predict, descent, pardons, progeny, demonic
d. Regular crossword style (some solved)
i. Husband, ???, cymbals, grecian(???), violins, bewitch, ???
ii. I think the missing clue in 2nd group is the "Mirage leaf.." line which I think has something to do with fig leaves, but I can't get a 7 letter word out of it.
iii. I think the missing clue in the last group is the "They spelunk…" line but I haven't come up with a decent 7 letter word for that one either.
e. Hidden word (mostly solved)
i. ???, fervent, fathers, delving, fertile, dragons, reliant
ii. First set might be "slacker" from the "bad badger…" line, but it looks very different from the other lines so I'm not positive about that one.
iii. As Pickett pointed out, these lines seem to also loosely describe the 7 mechanics
f. Words which grow in size (from 1 letter to 7 letters)
i. I don't have a good guess yet how to solve these.
g. 7 words with three letters randomly capitalized
i. Looks like Pickett cracked how to solve these as I was writing this post :)

I'm assuming that once all the individual lines are solved, that each group of 7 words will each produce a new 7 letter word (maybe each specific group will have a different mechanic somehow related to the bolded lines??).

They spelunk and with sabre teeth compete -CAVEMEN

Truth, beauty: whither silent urn ye know'st -GRECIAN (nicely done, DD)

Mirage leaf, meant to conceal crotch display -FIGMENT (again, thanks for the help, DD!)

Nice work on the cryptic crossword ones!

I didn't even catch the hidden words one...those look right, including the SLACKER part...

Basically there was one line left in each stanza that we hadn't figured out...and the only clue we hadn't really used was to apply some sort of "lengthwise" sort...so I did just that based on wordlength and took the first letter of the new list of words:

A team cut up ornate notched ivory => AUCTION
Alas no war, o rebel schemes detest => ONWARDS
No order, lest I cue scared escapee => INCLOSE

A mixture to each image hue stolen => ATHEISM

Enact no clumsy tyrant's plot, I say => INSPECT

Thy younger open up a sinker plumb => AUTOPSY

Re. outer matrix: spot key, I entreat => IRKSOME

I think the only one that I don't know the answer to yet then is "A chap, arms Silver, painter, pRoxy 'tween"...haven't figured out how to build up a seven letter word related to PAINTER from that yet...I think all other lines have been solved

His gasses go to a sun by Clarke

HUSBAND
SLEIGHT
COWBOYS
AUCTION
SCOURGE
SLACKER
ETERNAL

I never did steal a gem tip sceptre
ONWARDS
BUDDIES
FERVENT
RESPECT
CASTLED
FIGMENT
AGAINST

Ride faster my son to rest an eon
CYMBALS
INCLOSE

PREDICT
POVERTY
FATHERS
???????
HARMONY

Eric the evil elf is east of Eden
GRECIAN
DESCENT
SILENCE

ATHEISM

FORGERS

SALUTED

DELVING

It drops as my vision relief goes bye
FAIREST
GROVELS
MORALLY
INSPECT
FERTILE
PARDONS
VIOLINS

(We) do go in it to go on
DRAGONS
AUTOPSY
BEWITCH
MONSTER
STIFLES
PROGENY
MEADOWS

Rake in one more man to alter luck
DEMONIC
PISTONS
MOBSTER
QUICKLY
RELIANT

IRKSOME

CAVEMEN

Unfortunately I am probably done working on this until Monday (by which time I imagine it will be solved)...This has been really fun so far, though! Good luck, all!

I figured this would be solved while I was away over the weekend

So we have all of the words for all of the lines now. Not really sure where to go next with this...I don't really see much of a relationship between the words.

I'm guessing we have to do something with the 8-word titles...It's the only thing in eights...not sevens. I noticed that in a few of the titles, there is a word that's really CLOSE to an anagram of one of the words below it:

His gasses go to a sun by Clarke

SLACKER (missing "s")

I never did steal a gem tip sceptre

RESPECT (missing nothing) or CASTLED (missing "c" and "d")

Ride faster my son to rest an eon

FATHERS (missing "h")

Eric the evil elf is east of Eden

GRECIAN (missing "g", "a", "n") or DELVING (missing "d", "n", "g") or DESCENT (missing "s", "c", "t")

It drops as my vision relief goes bye

FERTILE (missing "t") or VIOLINS (missing "l")

Rake in one more man to alter luck

RELIANT (missing "i" and "n")

it COULD just be coincidence, but I feel SOMETHING must be done with the 8-letter titles...just not sure what.

I've been working on what I last posted, and found that all of the words but one in the titles are in the seven answers in each stanza...So the remaining title words are:

GASSES TIP EON ELF BYE IN RAKE

...Which means absolutely nothing to me!

The only other thing I can think of, is maybe the titles themselves are clues to something and the only ones that make any sense to me are:

His gasses go to a sun by Clarke (JUPITER or ODYSSEY...because of Arthur C. Clarke's 2001: A Space Odyssey)

I never did steal a gem tip sceptre (DIAMOND or EMERALD...because what other gems do you steal that are 7 letters?)

Anyone else finding anything??

"Badge answers with bold words discarding one"
So, based on that, I'm assuming my initial thought that the fact that I found all of the bold words (with the exception of one) in the 7 answers in each stanza is on the right track...just not sure what to DO with those...
I'll work on it now that I know that's the right path to go down...
