0 bonanova
[spoiler=Looks like]The obvious challenge is to create an opposite face for the center square. But that means it could not touch the center square, as they all do. So at the moment, my correct answer is no. I assume the 1x1 is a typo for 1x1x1. 0 soop2
Cut the square into a 'G' shape. Then you should be able to fold the top middle square diagonally, then back against the top left square, and the middle right square the same way against the bottom right. This will make an L-shaped net of 4 squares long and 4 squares wide.

These are one of the solution: "no cut off, with fold overlap surfaces" The other solution don't have any overlapping. You should try it too. Btw, welcome to brainden man! Btw, welcome to brainden man! thanks man - this is actually a new account because my old one stopped working and the password re-activation doesn't work 9__9 For the second one... exactly the same as the last solution, except instead of folding the top row diagonaly up to lengthen the top of the L, fold it straight across, to make a 2 square across, 3 sq down, 4 sq across squiggle.

Welcome back to community! No, we're looking for 1 sheet thick on all sides of the cube (no overlapping).

0 Molly Mae
If I understand correctly, you cannot create a 1x1x1 cube (using the same units as the original grid) without cutting some off or overlapping. Any cube will only use 6 faces, while the original sheet has 9 faces. You must cut or overlap exactly three squares every time.

Hi MM, the solutions of soop2 can wrap a 1cube block on all side without any loose part. OP fine. it happens that it may or may not have a cut off but folding to overlap is necessary. the solution without overlapping has minimum 2 straight cuts
0 TimeSpaceLightForce
as the title show 1 cut is enough but to avoid diffculty : 2 cuts is shown below with 3rd folds (wings)being outward & inward to lessen the creases when cutting a paper.
