You lived in 7th floor of an apartment building without elevator (only stairs) with your pregnant wife. She tells you to buy two Mangoes on the ground floor for her dinner.

Every floor from that apartment has a bully (from 1st Floor to the roof top) and they take whatever they want from everyone who goes up and bought something from the ground floor. And this time you are up to the challenge to bring exactly 2 Mangoes to your wife.

These Bullies has condition on taking items to everyone, they will take half of what you bought and will give you one (1) piece back. This condition applies to every bully in every floor.

Question is … How many Mangoes should you buy to reach your room with exactly 2 mangoes in your hand to give to your wife?

Actually I just did a little math on my part, and 2 really is the only number that fits the bill, no matter how you split it.

Solution is to by two mangoes so that when half is taken away and one is return quantity remains same as two at every floor. So you get exactly two mangoes at 7th floor for your wife.

Interestingly, if your wife wants 10 mangoes, you only need to buy 10!

all you need do is make 5 trips, buying 2 each trip.

You are just luck that your wife didn't want only 1 mango.

you will get one mangoe back from the robber on the seventh floor, we can't know what form the robber will give it to us.... therefore you cannot say that both mangoes will be chopped up!

but we can say for sure is that one mangoe ( well the .9921875 of a mangoe ) will be guaranteed to be chopped up! :-)
