My first attempt at composing a riddle, hope it isn't too easy.

I've many meanings on which to chew

In most I've got the bird's eye view

Men of importance seek out just one

Yet unlucky those who have many done

Of the first planet, a bane I may be

Yet of the eighth you may rule the sea

Thorn, daisy, canopy, gem

What, think you, am I of them?
