If a player is inactive for a long time, or if a player says he/she cannot be active for the rest of the game, a backup will come in and fill their spot.

Sizes up who's who,

if someone is tardy you may receive their role,

then WHAMMO you take what was mundane and make it awesome

If you are new to the game you may be able to use the fact that nobody knows you to your advantage

Reading the Newbie Mafia guide by Unreality and reading a few previous games will give you a good start on planning your Mafia domination.

One last thing about backups is that they can sign up in the middle of the game. So if someone ends up missing a sign up, they might be able to play.
