Hot Headed

Question

Some of you here may remember this sort

Solve the six below and then I'll report

I come before dinner, and then we drank

Prior to surf and ski, but let's be frank

Maybe not your type since those elite I avert

Or when craving the unusual, let them eat dirt

Spoke of exasperation or relief that it's passed

But to the ancients they list me second to last

English it's still, but mostly of yore

May be in a name, if quaint is in store

Forced to hide so has become quite keen

Giving an edge, if you know what I mean

It's around between the North and the East

Been a long time, certainly not in the least

[spoiler='Hey, do you ever sleep?'

Figured at least a few hours before needing another try. ]

1. Menu?

5. Press?

6. Eon?

Good evening Wilson - time just seems to run together for me. Only in for a moment as I must spend most of my time today at our other plant where I do not have internet access and where they start at the ungodly hour of 6:00 a.m. (as further explanation for lack of sleep which is overated or so I keep telling myself)

Nailed 6 (it's about time ;) ). Nicely done. Only 1. and 5. left. Your previous thinking on 5. was close®.

taper, shape, or grind

#5

another word yet. maybe not so common but not a big scary word I wouldn't say.

apply or consent.....(OR) talk or fun???

#1

none of those, sorry Jkb.

Blade?

Not that one but please take another stab at it. Think you're probably honing in on the right word in the clue though. Just remember, there's more than one way to skin a cat. (please dont put alot of thought into the above as hints, would hate to have misled).

forge??

#5....hmmm

Not that Jkb. I think there is one little double entendre that hasn't been picked up on yet that will solve this one.

would it be

#1 heat - when you said frank i was reminded of hot dogs and heat as in competitions

#5 peak or perhaps eclipse? since peek is kinda used for hiding and it can be used for points/edge.

is all of this refering to a volcano?

hello tricky - nice thoughts but not what I'm looking for. thinking, as you did, for alternate definitions of words like frank will be of great help in solving these.

Phew, very nice. Didnt know if maybe too obscure of a word for these little quickie couplets. Good stuff Jkb, did the hide clue finally give it to you?

1. to go.

Your "one little double entendre"..........is really what steered me in the right direstion....ph34r.gif

Still working on #1.............back in a "few"..........

Is it break?

hi there o_t - it pains me to say that's not it. nice thinking, tho.

looks like you beat me back. thanks for the info

open?

again with the sound logic but have to say no, please keep at it...

"dress" appropriately for dinner

Most would...

not it but there may be a connection to the answer. I honestly am not sure myself so wouldn't put too much stock in that as a clue. Obviously, since, like I say, I'm not exactly sure of the connection, oops.

This one's an odd one, I really must admit

One thing that's strange, is the location of it
