O.K. after tinkering with some other word riddle forms I have returned with another batch of cryptic clues. You can look at some of my past cryptic clues for guidance. Basically they are like cryptic crossword clues. I have added the length of each answer word to make this a little easier. Bonus points for figuring out the theme.

1. Charlie has begun to expose a position of authority. (5)

2. Does a bird get flipped at the service counter? (9)

3. Set aside the first can. (5)

4. Lounge alternative is not flat. (4)

5. An amatuer probed the bottom of the sea for oysters. (3)

6. Brad wore strange costumes. (8)

7. Governmental department heads hack imaginary bottom line. (7)

8. Doctors sample different tools. (5)

9. Suppress rude skills at the workplace. (4)

10. The bathroom even turned back the dead for Mama once. (7)

That logic is good for a POW but these are a little different. One part is a fairly straightforward clue and the other part uses some sort of wordplay. The trick is determining which part is which. Also, the answer will fit the theme but the context in which it is used in the clue will not necessarily. You probably already know that but I wanted to say it for the benefit of anyone who may be following along.
