  5. Guess all the songs in this passage. The songs' first letters form the answer, but they're scrambled. Ignore "the" as a word. (t will not be the first letter if the song starts with "the") There are four songs to start. I also include hints for the artists. 6. INTERROGATION: KIRA FRIES YOU: So how did you know her name was Sinwa? FRIES: (shrug) Oh, everyone was talking about her when she died. Apparently she was famous in her store. Everyone knew her as the Friendly Seller. She was apparently extremely friendly about everything. YOU: Ah. Well, do you know anything about the Zodiac Gangs? FRIES: Not much. Just that they're these Mafia groups. I heard you're taking them out. The corpse has a tiny puncture hole on her neck and it's bruised.
  7. Oh this is hard... Are the remaining two synanagrams or just anagrams?

    Newbie Mafia

I'll play. I've never played Mafia before. I've tried and gave up so I could use some experience. Oh yea. EST.
  9. Your investigation took you five days. Dates: December 12, 2011: Murder of Brian Henry. December 12-17, 2011: Investigation December 18, 2011: Crime Solved December 20, 2011: Murder of Sinwa Terrence As you can see, it's not in real time. Just so you know. I should have made that clear before but this fits better. Sorry guys. @Morningstar It's the same day as when she got murdered. Ms. Fries called the police, and you came over as soon as you could.
  10. @MiKi Excellent point. I do think I made her a little more suspicious than I intended. But this statement should not alter your judgement of her, whether criminal or witness. @Morningstar Have fun with those 500 pages. It's two days after the murder of Brian Henry. INTERROGATION: KIRA FRIES YOU: Did you know a Brian Henry? FRIES: (thinking hard) No.. Oh, wait. I sold these newspapers saying that a guy named Brian Henry was murdered a week ago or something. But that's about it.
  11. We could. It takes a riddle and some time to do so. So while they're doing the autopsy I'd look into other things. But you're on the right track. NOTE: Autopsies will mostly be used for confirmation on the way of death. You'll have to do some figuring before you get the results. Also, I forgot to mention that 11 Saunderson Ave is the house right next to Burger King. I'll do each interrogation in a separate post... INTERROGATION: KIRA FRIES Kira Fries, 42, inherited a book store from her mother when she was 35. She gave up her high school teaching career to continue the store. She is a tall woman with curly brown-red hair, a very light-hearted voice, and a smile that reminds you slightly of a friendly puppy. Her dog, Basket, runs around and barks in a friendly way whenever you're around. She lives on 15 Saunderson Ave, the most north-eastern house on the sidewalk with the subway station. Security Level: ? YOU: Hello, Ms. Fries. I hear you're the woman from the book store. FRIES: That I am. YOU: Okay. May I ask what you were doing at the time of the murder? FRIES: (serious) It was a busy day at the store. Lots of people going in and out. I heard this shriek, then that woman, Sinwa, walked in front of the store. A man was behind her and was holding something to her neck. He ran away towards the subway station. I didn't see exactly where he was going, though. I immediately called the police. YOU: I see. Did you know know Sinwa Terrence? FRIES: (frank) No, I don't remember her at all. She might've bought a few magazines from here but I don't think I've seen her before.
  12. Okay. So Sarah is charged for second degree murder. The body is sprawled face-down. It's a woman named Sinwa Terrence. She's 34, blond, rather skinny, lived on 11 Saundserson Avenue and worked at the Climax Mall. She has a small puncture mark on the side of her neck, and the area around it is swollen. There is a trail of blood starting from the sidewalk of the Burger King all the way to book store. Her hands are in her pocket. The owner of the book store, Kira Fries, heard a bloodcurling scream. She looked out the window and saw a woman being held by the neck. Fries says she thinks she saw him stab her with something, then she fell over. He stuffed her hands in her pocket, then ran for the train station. She called the police and there you are. The man who works at Burger King, James Cross, matches her story.
  13. Okay. Well done. This is what happened. You missed a few things. You arrest Sarah Steam for interrogation and she finally cracked. She told you this: Sarah Steam and Nathan Thomas are both members of the Smoking Dragons gang. Steam was assigned to scare Brian Dennis with the murder of Brian Henry. Steam made coffee at one in the morning. and put the thermometer's mercury in the coffee. Then her conscience told her to dump the coffee, which Nathan, dressed as a janitor, put back into Brian's coffee mug. Brian drank the coffee, and was poisoned by the mercury. He was trying to drive himself to the hospital, but the poisoning made him crash his car in Juliet Park. He left the car and dragged himself a good distance before giving into the poisoning. At about 4 in the morning, the Dragons arrived to examine the corpse and stabbed him and left you the note. They also put the briefcase in the car's trunk to show that the Dragons are the cause. You arrested Steam for attempt of murder, but she's willing to tell you more. However, Thomas seems to be out of sight. There seems to be another murder on the sidewalk in front of Lady Fries' Book Store. Investigate?
  14. Okay, I'm getting that Nathan is the prime suspect. What's your proof to back this up?
  15. We can do both. You do so and get... What is this? Nathan Thomas' fingerprints show up on the trash bag. Brian Henry was killed by mercury poisoning. The stab happened post mortem. You have uncovered all clues. You can now accuse someone of murder. Then fill out the murder report (just tell me what you think happened and explain all clues) and continue your hunt for the Dragons.
  16. People say they don't think they saw the janitor ever before. The che didn't pay attention to his name, but he knows where the janitors dump the trash. Maybe you can use the trash bag to trace him down somehow?
  17. Sorry, setting up the next stage of the mystery. I'm all ready for your questions. Ask everything I missed so far, please?
  18. I'm back. Here goes. You look for the janitor, but you can't find him. It seems he disappeared all of a sudden. The handwriting thing is getting hard to keep up with. My understanding is that there are two possible expressions. "I'm sitting next to Brian Henry/Dennis." Sound good? I went so far to actually write out the different fonts of handwriting for each character. I may show you a picture of it sometime. But I'll compare the letters tonight, let me take care of the long-owed interrogation right now. INTERROGATION: SARAH STEAM The lie detector is a little different this time around. It will blip whenever the target's blood pressure increases. This could mean anger, panic, or shock. So it doesn't necessarily mean they're lying if it blips, it just means they're not calm anymore. I did some research. YOU: We're gonna have a lie detector on you, so don't bother lying. What were you doing with the glass? STEAM: (irritated) I told you, I was making coffee, the thermometer broke, then I threw it away. [CALM] YOU: Do you know the code to the safe? STEAM: (fake confused) Safe? [bLIP] YOU: Don't bother lying with us. STEAM: You don't mean to say that I murdered Brian? [bLIP] YOU: Not necessarily. But you're a suspect. Just answer the question. STEAM: I do have a safe in the kitchen I have the code to. What's it to you? [CALM] YOU: Nothing. What were you doing in the kitchen when Brian ran out? STEAM: (shrug) I was making some steak, I think. [CALM] YOU: Who can back this up? STEAM: (raises eyebrow) Um, everyone in the kitchen? But definitely the chef, he was helping me out. [CALM] YOU: Any enemies of Brian you know? STEAM: (thinks) None except, well, there was this stupid gang he was against. [CALM, THEN BLIP] YOU: Gang? STEAM: (grim) It's nothing, he was just angry at this one crime circle. They're gone now. I made sure of that. [CALM] YOU: Why was the thermometer stand empty? STEAM: (very irritated) Cause I took it out and put it in the coffee pot, dumb-***! [bLIP] YOU: But mercury thermometers are not in use anymore. STEAM: (confused) Mercury? Hm. I don't know anything about mercury. [CALM]
  19. I'm sorry, guys, I'll be right back, just letting you know, the Dragons did not kill me yet.
  20. Oh boy. I was expecting 2 or 3 posts. I'll do my best to get all of them. 1) You guys come up with a phrase. Try not to make it suspicious. 2) Yes, we can, but only if the person is a suspect or known criminal. 3) The chef says that the thermometer hasn't broken, but that it doesn't matter because it's not a mercury thermometer, last time he checked. Brian was a nice guy, really, and he was never a sadist. Maybe Sarah just didn't like Brian. 4) The chef said that checking the trash won't help you, because a nice old janitor with a wispy beard took care of it for him. The chef was tired, it was late at night, so he didn't complain. 5) It took me a while to recover from the laughter that ensued from MiKi's last post... Interrogation coming up.
  21. Also, @Aco, if you were an actual PI, I would have just shut up because I'm really some teenager writing a modern Sherlock Holmes wanna-be. @Morn Yes, yes, good thinking! This is the most fun I had, you guys picking up on my attempts to discreetly hide things. Anyway. Talk to some people about it, I guess. You're the detective.
  22. Yeah, as far as I see, everyone contributed to the mystery by cracking my hard-thought riddles like an egg shell. In fact, it's not cool how fast you guys are going. > Just joking, keep up the good work. MiKi with her interrogations, Star with his switching to Roman names, (clever little...) Aco with his uncanny ability to use parts of the crime scene I haven't even thought of, guppy for noticing everything. (including the map, he listened to me! 10 more points for guppydor) Thanks so much for being awesome, guys. You fingerprint the safe. There are a few fingerprints on the bottom of the safe and on the lock. There are scratches on the shelf below the safe. INTERROGATION: SARAH STEAM (suspect) Sarah Steam is an old woman with wrinkles on her skin that look like it's a heavy cloak draped on her body. Her eyes are tinted with red. She has a wisp of white hair on her chin and her mouth shows irritation. She's hunched over and looks like a female Scrooge. YOU: Hello, Ms. Steam. STEAM: What did I do? YOU: That's what we're here to find out. I'm just gonna ask you a few questions. Answer them truthfully. STEAM: Let's wrap this up quickly. What do you want? YOU: Okay. What is your relationship to Mr. Henry? STEAM: (smirking) Oh, Brian? He was an odd kid. Always so paranoid. He used to be an okay kid, but his optimism annoyed me. And then he got really paranoid and somewhat sadist. I like that. Too bad he's dead now. YOU: That's a nice thing to say. STEAM: Never really liked him much. YOU: Okay then. What were you doing 1:00 in the morning? STEAM: Sleeping at the Hotel d'Pratteux. What else would I do? YOU: I don't know. That's why I was asking. What were you doing with the glass in the safe? STEAM: (neutral) What glass? YOU: Don't play that game with me. I think we both know that you were touching that glass. STEAM: (lightly) Ah, fingerprint. Well, I was just using it to cook. It broke in the pot, so I threw it in the trash. YOU: Well then, how'd it end up on the safe with your fingerprints on it? STEAM: (confused) Hm... I don't know anything about a safe. Although I do have a safe for all my goods in the lobby of the hotel. YOU: So I'm guessing that stand on the wall was for the broken thermometer? STEAM: (smirk) No, it's for the hanging elephant. YOU: Don't get sarcastic with me, Steam. So you wanted the thermometer to measure the heat of the boiling water? STEAM: (nods) That's right. I was making coffee and I wanted to measure it to a certain temperature, and I had it right, and I was tapping it on the pot as a bad habit, and I tapped too hard. I dumped the coffee in the trash. This was the night before, by the way. So I dumped the coffee and the broken thermometer in the trash. Comparing handwriting. This murder case may go a lot quicker than I intended. I may have to come up with a second murder to time this well. You ask everyone to write the word, "Menace" in order to compare the note's e and n and with the witnesses'. Nathan Thomas' handwriting is an elegant, cursive scrawl that stretches the lower case e as a wide loop that flicks slightly at the end and n's with a small flick on the right end. Sarah Steam's handwriting is scratchy, and uneven. The e's are barely legibly swirls. n has longer ends. Marilyn Cabot's handwriting is rigid and robotic. The letters look like the font in this mystery. The note's handwriting is rushed, almost as if the writer was running whilst writing it. The e's end extends far. The n's stretch down and off the paper, as if the writer jerked and the pen scratched off the paper. You notice that there's a small line that looks like a flicking extension of the n. In fact, if the paper was larger, you could imagine the end of the n being a large flick.
  23. Yes, it was fingerprinted, but unfortunately, the only fingerprints are yours from removing the knife. It appears the murderer was wearing gloves. Also, before we interrogate Ms. Steam, what level of security should we put around her?
