Looking up element 118 revealed the following link which describes the creation of the element by bombarding Lead (Pb-82) with high energy Krypton (Kr-36) ions. 0 Guest Posted May 10, 2009 Report Share Posted May 10, 2009 After reading about Element 118 it turns out that the discovery was retracted by Berkeley Labs in 2001 saying that they misinterpreted the data (maybe because the experiment results could not be replicated). Then in 2006 is was officially discovered by a team of Russian and American scientists. Interesting discovery path. http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/20...ew-element.html Unfortunately, this element discovery was not made by bombarding Lead with Krypton as was claimed originally, it was made by bombarding Californium 249 with calcium 48 ions.
